10 Weeks to IMC - Low Rider

Happy Monday IMC Rock Stars!

We have a big training day coming up on our plan this weekend!   I, for one am excited… means we’re getting close! How are y’ll rolling the logistics of the day together?

I had a good training week. I’m doing a four week bike bump (don’t worry, I got help from the coaches on this) and that plus a little strength training and yoga resulted in my two highest volume training weeks ever. I was a little nervous after the first week but the cool thing I’m seeing now at the end of the second week is I seem to be managing it really well. Probably because I can sleep like a mofo or, more as my mom would say, I’m a good sleeper!

Have a fantastic week!

This week’s song is Low Rider by War in honor of our ninja smooth execution on our big training day!  Picture you bike all pimped out, your hat on sideways and just cruisin’! Pretty sure we’ll have the munchies afterwards too. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1rrsj_auEKs

Low Rider by War

All my friends know the low rider

The low rider is a little higher

Low rider drives a little slower

Low rider is a real goer

Low rider knows every street yeah!

Low rider is the one to meet yeah!

Low rider don't use no gas now

Low rider don't drive to fast

Take a little trip

Take a little trip

Take a little trip and see

Take a little trip

Take a little trip

Take a little trip with me

  • Nice pictureof the sideways hat while riding- love it!! I am looking forward to the big training day this weekend- will be my longest ride to date as I just slid into the IM training plan a few weeks ago, and will be a replay of the race I did last weekend but way more relaxed!! We're going up to visit my Dad at a cabin he is building on a lake 1.5 hours from where I live, so asll the gear is coming and I'll get to do my OW swim in the lake, will be a great training venue- as long as my family does not mind me leaving half a day or so :-)

I need to find time to get some strength training back into my sechdule- I've dropped the ball a bit on that since moving into the bigger volume, but I know it helps me a lot with the long distance stuff, way to go Jen on the big weeks, I can always use more sleep :-). Happy training everyone!!
  • Hello... thanks again Jenn for the message/invite. I'm usually pretty quiet on the forums unless I need help from the coaches. But this may help me get through those really tough days where mind and body are not cooperating.

This Saturday will also be my biggest workout day ever! Trying to figure out the best place to do it so the four hours of riding don't become mind numbing and swimming will be safe and enjoyable.

Ok, how do you fit in strength training with everything else? I'm finding my time really stretched with just the IM training plan. I also like to sleep so waking up very early in the morning to do strength training is not my cup of tea.

    Have a great week.

  • Hi everyone,

I am like Michelle where I am quiet in the forrum and on the dashboard. However, I do benefit from others comments and questions.

Getting back into IM training after St. George has been a little bit of a struggle. Running has been good, swimming has hit a plateau and biking has been my weak point. I haven't been able to embrace that pain on the biking main sets. This past Sat I had a breakthrough, I was able to do the MS and not stop! It was at the lower end of the watts range, but at least its a start. I can't believe we only have 10 weeks to go! Time to suck it up and get going!

I started strength training again and do it about 3x/wk for about 30 min.  I keep it short with little rest between sets and exercises so it doesn't take alot of extra time.

Tomorrow I'll be doing my big training day so I can get started earlier in the day rather than waiting until the pool opens at 9am on Sat.  It should be interesting since I did my long run today.  Good luck to everyone on Sat. and have a great week!

  • Hey Jenn, thanks for the email heads up - god, 10 weeks! my training has been all over the place, given that Elly and I are currently driving across the US with our daughter and dog en route to Seattle for the big final move. I am feeling really confident about the bike and the swim - although my training has been light. Will be hitting it hard for the last nine weeks

As a bonus, Elly and I will be in CDA for the IM this weekend, spectating!! yahoo!
  • Good morning all, and did we wake up to a beautiful 1st day of summer here on Vancouver Island. Sucks to have to be indoors all day waiting to get out on the bike after work.

Have a great week 11, as I raced this past Sun I will be attempting to do week 10 (yep 2x20 and 5x15) and catch up with ya next week.

  • Lookin’ good IMC Gang!

@ Michelle: I’m getting in 3x weekly strength training like Teri. What I do is tie it to my swims because I swim at my gym. I’m not allowed to leave until I’ve done both!

@ Becky: Does you dad need any more kids? That sounds really fun!

@ Jane: What a big summer for you guys! More cowbell at IMCDA!!! So fun to watch a race and not have the stress of participating!

  • Just completed Escape from Alcatraz on 6/10 and had a total blast. My favorite quote from the race "Ride it like you stole it." Really a great race and I would totally recommend it to anyone. Now I am switched over the the IM plan and starting to build.

I am doing some serious schedule maneuvering so that I can do my big RR tomorrow instead of Saturday. It is supposed to be sunny tomorrow and rain this weekend in Seattle so I want to take advantage of the good weather. It will make the 6 hours so much more pleasant in the sunshine.

Have a great time watching IMCDA. I volunteered there last year and had fantastic time.

    Happy Training!
  • It's great to see the participation in the forums again. My week has been pretty good, got in two runs which for me is a big step since I haven't been able to run for the past 7 weeks. (stress fracture) they are slower than I want but it will take time to get back to speed.

@ Jane- I always feel like I am at a party that haven't been invited to when I watch a race. I would rather partIcipate.

@ All- keep in mind that Jenn is a freak of nature and just because she can do it all and "be a bag of chips" doesn't mean everyone can. I see big things in store for that little powerhouse!

  • What a perfect day for a RR. Did my swim 4 tri class this morning then rode from Bellevue almost to Enumclaw via the Issaquah Hobart road. On the way back added in a climb up Tiger Mtn. Finished it all off with the 60 min run. I think it was about 75 degrees but felt much warmer on the run. I had the Low Rider song going through my head the entire time.

Hope everyone has a successful RR this weekend

Starting to see lots of photos coming in from CDA on FB. Wishing I was going to be there to cheer on all my friends.
  • Starting to feel some excitement for Canada!

I did my big day yesterday. Able to swim in the lake for 60 min, 3000 yards by my Garmin. Got onto the bike early, but it was still about 95 degrees by the time I got to the run. I'm not good running in the heat. Need to change that mental attitude.

I do weight training twice per week for about 45 minutes. I go to a women's weight training class and I like to continue to go for the social aspect of it. But, if I have to be at work extra early, I skip it and don't try to make it up.

Wishing I was spectating in CDA!

  • Well the week in the books. Happy to hear some good efforts for the week. Lee Ann I am up north of you in Victoria and good call on the switch-a-roo. Sat was terrible up here with wind and rain and fog, welcome to Junuary.

I was comming off a HIM last Sunday so was not sure how the week would go. Did nothing Mon, short run Tue. Wed bike went good. Thur run was short and decent. Sat, well, that was hard. I did 2x20z4 to make up for last week, they went good, but could not hold z3 watts for 4th and 5th intervals. Today, again had a decent 1.5 hrs ABP and things caught up. I really struggled keeping any z3 wattage and called it a day at 3hrs. Here's to next week and some good tests.

  • First big day ever completed yesterday! image Totally lucked out with a absolutely gorgeous morning. First OW swim of the season and the water was pretty chilly. As I was swimming I heard some loons so I stopped and saw a pair about 2 meters away. So, I just floated for a while and watched them. No hurry really.

Completed the bike and did the run. Felt quite hungry half way through the run. Need to take in more on the bike I guess.

Ended up back in the lake after the run to cool off.

This morning I slept until 10:00 am. No kidding. Husband went golfing so no one to bug me.

  • Nice job on your big day Michelle! I think sleep is the miracle drug, seriously!

X2 on good call on the weather maneuvering Lee Ann!   Pouring ass rain here on Saturday and I ended up with a very NOT glamorous indoor pool swim, indoor training ride and TM run. Oh well, nobody said this would be pretty.
