7 Weeks to IMC - Hungry for Heaven

Happy Monday!

WOW! Just seven weeks to go! We have a race rehearsal coming up this weekend. Time to start dialing in our execution.

I am back on track with you guys now after juggling training over the last two weeks to race a sprint yesterday. I had my best finish ever with a third overall and “in the money” for the first time! SO MUCH FUN!

This week’s song is Hungry For Heaven by DIO. My little brother was a wrestler and played the movie “Vision Quest” over and over (and over) when we were kids.  This song always gets me PUMPED!  Nothing like some good butt rock to fire you up!

Have a great week!

Hungry For Heaven by DIO

You're a dancer

But you're dancing on air

Just a matter of time till you fall

You're a dreamer

One night at the fair

But still you want it all

You're in danger

The last of a line

But the vision lasts forever

So just hold on

You can make it happen for you

Reach for the stars and you will fly

You're Hungry for Heaven

Hungry for Heaven

Hungry for Heaven

But you need a little hell

You're a runner

But you're chasing yourself

Feel the hot breath on your shoulder

You're emotion

Running cold running warm

The young just getting older

We are sunlight

We can sparkle and shine

And our dreams are what we're made of

So just hold on

You can make it happen for you

Reach for the stars and you will fly

You're Hungry for Heaven

Hungry for Heaven

Hungry for Heaven

But you need a little hell

  • Nice finish this weekend Jenn! So now you're going pro?

I am officially pooped and I haven't even got to themeat of my BBW yet. Need a good nights sleep tonight and luckily it's just a swim day tomorrow.
  • Hello...

I'm looking forward to completing this RR on Saturday. It would be the longest ride for me to date and I am looking forward to executing my nutrition plan to see if it is going to work.

Should one do a hilly course or a flat course?

When I read 7 weeks to go in your subject line, my stomach did somersaults and the butterflies were there. Holy Crap!

  • Also looking forward to the weekend- I am heading down to calgary to do the RR weeekend with another EN member- Selina, will be great to have a partner to suffer through 180 kms with. We're having a heat wave up here too (86-90'F is super hot for us cold Canucks!) so it will be interesting to see how I fare on Saturday- but that's what Penticton can be like so bring it on!! My left knee has been giving me some grief, so babying it this week and hopefully things correct themselves. Have a super week everyone, looking forward to hearing about everyone's RR experiences!
  • Happy 7-weeks to go to everyone.

Started my week in Penticton with Monday's mile repeats done along the channel. Was not sure how it would go after the 110k and 160k bikes sat/sun but needed to get it dones as we had 8hr trip back to Victoria ahead of us and I was not likely going to run when I got home. Anyhow they went pretty darn good. I stopped with one minute to go in the 3rd interval as my right hip flexor said to and I listned.

Penticton is ready and waiting. Several camps were there on the weekend and with the 2600 cyclists for the gran fondo it felt like the last week of august.

Have a great week and RR (I considered this past weekend my RR).

  • @ Michelle- try to find a course as close to Penticton as possible, in the closest temp humidity conditions you can find. That way your nutrition, fluids and equipment can get a true test.

I did my RR on July 4th on a close conditons to Penticton, less the heat. This weekend is my Big Bike Week. I have found that 7 weeks out is the ideal time for a big bike volume pop.

Doing my first OWS tonight, can't wait. Best part of OWS days is I don't have to get up at 4:00am to do it.
  • @Steve - living in a prairie, flat as a pancake city, like Winnipeg makes finding a Penticton like course very challenging. I have to drive 2 hours east to the Whiteshell (MB/Ontario border) to get some decent rollers. Makes for a really long training day. I'm hoping to convince a few others that they need to ride with me. image I agree, the more hills I do the better. It is also gorgeous in the Whiteshell.

  • I know - holy race rehearsal batman - just got dialled into that. Swim with be no problem, but I also have to work tonight, tomorrow night and saturday night.

methinks I'll be dead on my feet at benaroya hall on Saturday!
  • Well got my long run done last night. 1st 10k at slower pace started ok, then after about 30 min right knee was sending messages then a few minutes later the left knee was sending messages. Humm, guess transitioning from mainly trail running to pavement/concrete was comming into play combined with I am still running in Kinvaras to see if they can do 4hrs. Anyhow, got to my aid station (gym) had a bar and refilled water bottle and off I went for the 1:15 at LRP. Funny, pains went away and I held my pace, maybe it was my obsession of the treat waiting for me. I finished the run at a drive-in restaraunt where I met my wife and we got'em large dipped cone. Yummy, ya that was why those Kms went so well. Then off to stand in ocean for a bit.

As i did BBWekend last week, no RR for me, so good luck to all with your RRs.

  • OMG, I think my arms are going to fall off after that swim this morning!! but really happy that I was able to bang out a 3800 M swim in 1:35. total confidence builder. But I am working three concerts this week, so I am pretty tired. and we are moving into our new house. yeah, not much going on.

I've been feeling bonky all day since the swim... quick protein suggestions please!
  • Chocolate Milk
  •  Belated: Greek yogurt!

  • Hope everyone who had RR enjoyed Sunday OFF.

I guess the BBW caught up to me and my Sun ABP ride was a bust. Did 2.5hrs and lucky if I hit my zone for 20min total. Bring on week 15.
