Basic Month and the Power Clinic?

Hi Team,

Sorry for the late arrival, I was a little confused about if I actually made it into the clinic; and I was taking my transition week after completing the OS.   Anyway, I am excited about the clinic but I am suppose to start the basic month next week and move into Ironman prep on Feb 8 for St George.  After reading through the posts in 3.0 it appears that the BM plan and the Power clinic plan does not go hand in hand.  So I am trying to put my thinking cap on and figure out the best plan of action.  I am hoping that you guys might have some insights and thoughts on how I should do this.  Anyway, here is what I am thinking for the hybrid of BM/Power Clinic plan:

M: Swim

Tu: VO2 Bike

W: Interval run (from Tuesday of basic month)

Th: FTP+ Bike

F: Swim

Sa: BM Saturday ride

Su: Run for 1:30 (from Thursday long run of basic month, zone 1-3)

The other option I was thinking is that since Rich and Patrick hasn’t decided about what to do about the OS Saturday bike workout, I might be able to just stick the VO2 bike on to the Wed and put the FTP+ bike into Saturday’s long ride and then the 30/30 with the ABP ride on Sunday.  However, having the FTP+ bike and the 30/30 back to back is probably not ideal. But you never know?

I know there are a few others that is doing St George in the clinic, what is going to happen on Feb. 8? I think there are still 2 more weeks of the clinic left at that point.  I guess we will cross that bride when we come to it?

Anyway, I am looking forward to this and I am excited for whatever the team/P&R thinks will be the best.

Thanks,

Wei

  • Here's what I understand from Coach R:

    1. Swimming is minimal (as usual per OS rec.)

    2. Get in the 2 run interval workouts (Wed and Sat)

    3. Other 2 runs are just minimal (20-30' easy)

    4. Do the Bike workouts as sent by email on Sunday to you.

    Look at the 1st 3 thread at the top of this Forum for additional info;

BOTTOM LINE: be well rested for the Bike work (must hit those % numbers for this to work......swimming should NOT add any fatigue and running is more maintenance than improving during these weeks)

    Hope this helps

  • Thanks for your thoughts Michael!
I am going with the hack I first outlined; I will cut back on some stuff if I start to have problems hitting the bike workouts as prescribed.
