EN IMCA Meet-ups

Just so we have a place with the details of where/when we are meeting.

Thursday- meeting at the spray park on the north end of Skaha lake at 11:30?

5:00 dinner at Pasta Factory

Friday- 8:30 am swim at the Sicamous.

I am in for Thursday events. (just to confirm Tim- the spray park is near the Waterfront Inn?) I am going to do  package pickup at 10 Thursday morning, then I'll be good to go for a ride, so 11:30 probably still works for me. I am going to meet up with another group of friends Friday morning, so count me out for Friday. Off to pack MY stuff (after spending yesterday packing the family's stuff... feels like I am packing my whole house!)

  • I know this is the meet up thread, but I am having a mini-melt down. I can't concentrate at work. super worried. Feeling fat. And like I won't finish. I Know this is ridic, but if anyone has first IM stories to share and how you coped pre race, that would be greatly appreciated.
  •  @ Jane..anticipatory anxiety is good. It means you're ready. The decrease in physical activity is leaving your brain with not enough to wear it out, so obsess about useful things , like checklists for what to do Sat and Sunday, visualzing how smooth transitions will go, being calm in the water, cycling easily for the first 25 miles to the Huskey Station. Pedaling smoothly amd easily up the pass, etc, etc.

  • You are ready... you've done the work, you have experienced all you will see on race day, all you can do know is go into the box, and focus on what you can control. Choose healthy foods that make you feel good, not guilty, think about fueling that supreme machine you call a body for a looong training day. Sit down, write yourself out 'THE RACE PLAN'. start with your nutrition when you get up, what you will wear, what time you arrive at transition and what you will do when you get there. All part of the visualization process. But if you write it all down, it always helps me focus, and catch the small details. I always find once I get it down on paper, I have a clear vision what my job is on race day- and EN has prepared you, all you have to do is go and, and execute that plan NINJA STYLE!!

Seriously... very normal, I was a basket case my first race. But, being the Type A I am, the more prepared I felt I was from a race planning standpoint, the better I knew I was ready, just nervous. Big hugs...
  • Jane, not much i can add that Becky and Al have not mentioned. If it helps, I would consider myself a veteran, especially for IMC and even I have worries. I have constructed my box, have an re-action for everything, and have just finished checking my things against my list 2x as I pack.

Believe me once the gun goes off, you are there in the moment and doing an ironman, things just start to happen normally as your body recalls the training. No problem, before you know it you have found your groove, you tell yourself that wasn't so bad, smile, yep even in the water and count strokes.

After the last turn you head for the twin towers and just like that you are on the bike enjoying the day as you know you'll nail it.

You are surrounded by hundreds of people all with the same thoughts and you run you chat you cheer. All of a sudden you find yourself on Lakeshore Blvd and z4 the last mile.

  • Thanks everyone. Trying v hard to relax and keep it tog!! Visualization going to b v important. Calm calm. I think if I chunk it up it will be more doable mentally. Can't wait to meet you all!
  • Hi!

The meet ups are looking good for me!

@ Jane: Sooo sorry to hear how you're feeling but YES it's 100% NORMAL! What works(ed) for me is simply putting all my worries, frets and concerns into a checklist. I have a big packing checklist, to-do checklist and a race execution checklist all in Google docs so I can access it anywhere. If I think of someting, it goes on there then I can forget it. And trust me, you will feel skinny at the end of the race no matter what your weight!

    See you soon!
  • Hey..
I should see you at 11:30 at the spray park as well. I would like to register first thing in the morning. Is it important to visit the expo on the first day for good loot? or will there be a selection on Friday as well?

    See you on Thursday!

  • OK so ready to leave onbike 11:30am Thur for out and back ride along run course. Gives those who wish to register early some time.

Driveway to spray park is on Lee Street (adj to South Main).

    See whoever makes it then.

  •  Iron Sherpa Elly here. Jane and I will meet the group at the spray pad and will be in for dinner too.

    See you then!

  • See you folks tomorrow at the spray park. Looking forward to a little ride after sitting in a vehicle for 10 hours today!!
  • Leaving from the Seattle area at 9:00 this morning, should have plenty of time to make it there by 5:00 for dinner. Can't wait to meet the group! Bummed I am missing the ride this morning.

Swam a half iron swim this morning shoulder hurt but it worked. Time was 41:58 so that should translate to a 1:25 swim split. Run afterwards was at a 8:00 pace for 5 miles. There is hope for me yet!
