Week of sept 3 -- IMAZ week 10
Startup for training thread. I'm actively doing nothing today, except taking ibuprofen, and researching new bike frames. I'll try running tomorrow. Have a great labor day!

Recovering from Tremblant.
Doing a coach consult.
Relooking at bike fit.
Trying to get through all my workouts the best I can. I have kind of jumped off some of the threshold work a bit and trying to focus on long and steady. I dont seem to advance much this time of year doing repeated threshold on the run. I still do on the bike WO's when called for.
Does anyone know what to expect as far as water temperature around this time of year?
Hope its not real cold.
Nice work guys!
@Randy as I recall water temps were high 60's last year. Dont quote me though. It wont cool down too much, its still in the 70-80s in Phoenix in November.
Yesterday did the 35min run w 3x4' @ 7:04, but no bike. Have to get my roadie put back together, and waiting on a helmet I ordered.
Got my 2hr run in this AM before work. Felt pretty good. Took in 34 oz of Perform, a bananna +3 gels. No stomach issues, felt very stong the whole way.
14.5mi, 2:01:00 w/ 2x10' @7:04 and 1x20' @ 7:24. That 7:04 pace is starting to feel smooth and easy, wonder if its time to test.
Phew i can deal with that temperature. Its hard to keep my head under water if it gets much colder. Living in Iowa I will have plenty of chances to practice up until mid October before it drops in the 50's here.
You guys and your 6 and 7 m/m suck.
I will let you all into my game plan for IMAZ since this is my first.
Swim- Survive
Bike- Survive
Run-Survive
This sport is easy
It was good. I feel like I have my bike legs back. First 2 days I was on the road bike, because it is a cadillac. Switched to TT bike on Monday, I felt like a gorilla on a kids bike for the first 30 minutes. But I am back in the swing.
Took yesterday off. Went for the long run today and had a lot more residual fatigue than I realized. After the HMP intervals, I could not get back to LRP. Then the MP interval was between MP and LRP. A very tough run physically. But great for the mental six pack, it totally caught me off guard.
Not doing much swimming, just once per week. Shoulder pain is non existent. I will have to see what happens tomorrow in the group fun OWS. If no pain, then I will return to Master's soon enough.
Hope these may help some folks.
Last year water temp was about 62 on race day. Water visibility was poor, but still ok that you could see if you were about to swim into someone.
I lined up and swam inside buoy line and incurred minimal contact during the swim during first leg of swim. After turnaround it was more crowded but manageable. Race morning air temp is generally quite cool. Last year I wore my arm warmers under wetsuit and was ready to jump onto bike not having to take time to put those arm warmers on onto wet arms. Anticipate wind to increase in strength during the course of the bike leg; the 3rd accent up the minor grade of Beeline Hwy will be tough on those who didn't pace well during the first two bike loops; and it is likely you may be hoping for a fast 3rd loop descent down Beeline Hwy, but odds are great you will face a near direct headwind and your hopes for free descent speed will not occur.
Thanks for the info David! Yup, seems wind is the common issue @ IMAZ. Didn't realize water was that cold, already.
Did the 4 hr ride on Saturday with ENer Will Hayes. NIce to ride with a buddy! First time in quite awhile we've been able to get together. Will made me work for it saturday. He was on his Tri Bike, I was on my roadie and gave me no mercy. Wow what a difference that aero positon makes! We plan to do the Big Day this saturday together, and hopefully I will have my Tri bike rebuilt in time.
Saturday Ride: 67mi 3:58min 185AP ( I haven looked at the rest of the stats yet.) We cranked out all our z4 climbing hills and put in quite a bit of z3.
Sunday: SAU in the bank. Took a recovery day and did a beautiful hike with my DW, then knocked back a couple beers at our favorite beer garden.
