Hotels

Where is everyone staying? Does anyone know the Fiesta Resort Hotel in Tempe? It seems like it's 3 miles away from the transition area, but the map could be faulty. Seems like it would be too far to walk on race morning. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

  •  I probably will go with Endurance Sports.

  • I think if you want to walk to the transition area, you might be out of luck. When I checked, everything really close to the venue was booked. We volunteered last year, and it wasn't too bad getting in and out of the venue, so I have basically planned on staying farther away, and being dropped off. I also think that staying farther away will be less crowded, and the hot tub won't be jam-packed with Ironpeople. I have not booked a room yet.
  • Yes everything walking distance is sold out. Scottsdale Road is likely the closest, there are a few hotels along there, the nicer ones are closest to the race site. We stayed at the Aloft and Country Inn & Suites both years, both are a 'long walk' to site so probably better to be dropped off in the morning.

  • This is where I stayed last year:

While it would have been nice to been closer, this location was great. Close to the highway, five minutes to race site (even on race morning). They even had a shuttle to/from the airport if you needed it (I drove from TX, so didn't need it, but a friend used it).

Personally, I don't want to be in downtown Tempe with all that noise, crowds, etc, especially race week when I want to stay off my feet as much as possible.

  • If, like me, you are a procrastinator, here is some info.

    THIS PAST WEEKEND:
I was looking for a suite since I have family coming with. No one had what I wanted, but there is a "new" Holiday Inn Express on the edge of the ASU campus. It was a Comfort Inn, but was bought out and renovated. They are super nice, very helpful, and NOT on the IMAZ list of places to stay. I told them this and they were concerned, going to contact WTC and get on the list as their other site had been on it in the past.

  • Hi Dottie:

FYI - Even if you don't get a place close and have to drive on race morning, there is plenty of parking near the transition area.  The key is to stay off S. Mill Road and E. Rio Solado.  They are always jammed up.  Plenty of parking off S. Ash Ave.

Here is a pic of the area.  The yellow circle is the IM Village/transition area.  The read circles are of parking areas.  http://tinyurl.com/8b482bd

There wil be a bit of traffic, but not bad at all.  I was there in 20210 and 2011 and we parked in the lot closest to Mountainside Fitness (noted in the pic).

In short, don't stress if you do have to drive.

    John
