Week 7/10 for IM Coz 2012
Well week 7 has come to an end. What a week it has been. On Friday 7 miles into our second loop (each loop 50 miles)I noticed a rabbit running next to me and then the furry long earred thing did what I feared-darted right in front of me. I braced and over I went-hard;(. Chin hit the concrete first then my head. Once again in split my helmet so I can't preach enough about them. They have now saved my life twice!! On the way over handle bars my sternum got crunched by the right aero pad. After I decided I could move all my extremities and my bike was okay I started screaming and spitting blood out of my mouth. Last year 3 weeks out from Eisc I crashed but it was 10x worse. A local farmer pulled his car around and loaded up my bike and me. He took me to my car and a training buddy drove me to the ER. Called my wife on the way and she was not thrilled!!!!!
Okay so I walk into the ER and note there is blood all over me and a large hole in my chin. They proceed to put a rigid cervical collar on me and WALK me to a room. Next thing I know a trauma alert is called over head. Note I work here. The trauma doc a friend of mine and all the residents, anesthesia, X-ray, Chaplin, etc show up. So we do the million dollar work up to include X-rays, ultra sound, CT of head, chest, and abd. Then stitch me up. Outcome: grade 2 concussion, torn sternal and rib cartilidge, bilateral wrist sprains. Could have been worse.
my bike was with minor scratches and a totally wrecked front wheel!!
This week in training was:
Biking 200 miles, running 47 miles, and 6.8 miles of swimming.
looking forward to this taper and to race. No goals for the race now besides to finish and not get stung by a jelly or see a shark!!!!
