Training for Altitude

I am just looking for concrete advice to how best to get ready and train for a race with Altitude. Any thoughts ????

  • When I was in high school (early 80's) the latest running craze out of University of Oregon was to wear an "o2 filter" that looked like a pair of scuba tanks with tubing that came around to a mask over the nose and mouth. Living in Atlanta, Ga at the time I bought one. Wore it for 2 training sessions but gave it up considering all the stares and horn honks I received. A few years later the research data came back which showed you had to "live" at altitude for longer periods of time than just an hour work out here and there.

Now living in Oklahoma, Simon I'm in the same boat your in. As a physician I thought about EPO but given what has happened to Lance I will choose to "suck wind" when the time for IMLT comes unless anybody has any other thoughts. image
