Pasadena to Big Bear

Sooo....

Today I hopped over to MapMyRide and routed out the most likely route the tour will take from Pasadena to Big Bear for the Friday stage. MMR kinda wigged out at the end and I wasn't able to save the route for you to check out, but I remember the numbers

123 miles

~11,500ft of gain

To be honest, I thought it might be more/worse. I've done 135 with 14500 of gain, and about 14k of that in the first 100 miles. But there is actually quite a bit of downhill in this stage's route.

It's all academic, however, cuz there's no way we can do the whole stage. When they publish the official routes, start times, etc I'll be able to make a better plan and give you an idea of what Friday will look like.

I plan to round up a group of locals and do the entire stage in April.

  • sounds like we might have some campers advocating for a 6am wheels up start to get in a lot of the stage...

I reserve the right to change my mind on Thursday night and after 400+ miles on the legs for the week at that point.......but I like the sounds of finishing the week with an epic ride if people are up for it.

  • We'll do a lot of it, or some of it, but not all of it. There are some significant logistics considerations with the stage as well. Finally, I know how we've all felt by Thursday night. Putting the biggest day of the tour on Friday is just no joke. Thursday has, in the past, been the big day.

  • I think my biggest day in France last year was 90 mi, 10,000. ft with an 8 mi run afterwards......the run REALLY sucked at the time but, a month later at mile 18 during IMKY, I was VERY glad that I did it!!! IMLP ain't no cake walk......just sayin'image
