Philip Graves on twitter

Oh to be a Pro!   Spotted this on Phil Graves' twitter - it seems like he's getting some volume in!!  Shame he only did a 15 min run, wimp!

'9h training today, 1h 30 5k hard swim, 7h 15min 210k ride around the girona countryside & 15min run off with the first mile hard, fun times!'

Isn't he only 21 or so? He may actually NEED the volume! Any insight on why we're seeing all these precoscious young Brits in triathlon?

Not sure Al without doing some research - it does sound as though he's just raw talent, similar to Miss Wellington and his University buddy Al' Brownlee. Kinda fun to hear of the lads 'exploits' - first ever Kona he's 5th out the water & then decides to blast it on the bike to guarantee the $5,000 prime to pay for his Kona & Clearwater trip! At Clearwater, he forgets to put his socks on in T2 and rips his feet to bits on the run - finished 3rd in the GB 100m TT Champs and sets a PB for 10m of 18:50 I believe, then another at 50m and then dies on the last half.

Someone needs to sit down with the boy and have a chat - mebbe he just doesn't listen! Be fun to watch when he gets the pacing right - could be the future of IM.

Can't remember where I heard it/read it but the British were trying to recurite teens/early 20's to Triathlon. They were adversiting looking for athletes that could run X or Swim X for the national teams. This is more ITU, but sounds like the popularity will carry over...

There has been loads of 'rejects' from the British Cycling Team - youngsters that benefitted from the funding but then wound up being cut-loose to fend for themselves - British Cycling is one of the countries richest sporting bodies along with the Sailing team; all based on their medal performances. So, could be a kick-back from all that.
I believe we also had a few Aussies claiming GB patriality 10years or so back - seems that they saw UK as a better chance of receiving funding and olympic selection.
Some good other GB youngsters now as Al mentioned - Hollie Alvil(?), Phil Graves' sister & Brownlee's brother! :-)
