Race Recon for a HIM

Should the Race Recon for a HIM occur on the Friday or can it occur on Saturday morning? Which one is best?

    If I am just going to drive the bike course to take a look then I would be fine doing it on Saturday before I drop my bike off. If I plan on riding some of it, I would do it on Friday if my race is on Sunday. If I am swimming I will do it on the Saturday and same with a small run.

    What about biking the run course? Would that affect our recon day?

    Chris, I assume you're talking about Galveston.

    It's going to be hard biking the run course around Moody Gardens. 1) It's very twisty & turny so it would be hard to follow the course and 2) most of the run is on pedestrian walkways around Moody so you won't have much space to ride your bike (nor am I sure riding is even allowed on the walkways).

    As for the bike course: be very, very careful. The Seawall area closer to Moody Gardens is very crowded and cars park parallel along the road. I would never ride that stretch of road on a non-race day. Race day they do not allow cars to park along the Seawall and cyclists will have a dedicated lane to ride or the entire road (the San Luis Pass part of the course).

    I would say that is killin two birds with one stone. You an test out your bike to make sure it is working fine and also see the run course.
