I need a Na'Orleans bike ride

I am traveling to NOLA this weekend, with 90 min and 5hr training rides prescribed. Is the HIM route the best bet? Any other good routes?

I used to train there all the time. There is a cyclists group ride sat morning that is mostly roadies and very fast. There is also a big Tri group that rides at least 50 every sat. They typically meet out on lakeshore drive near university of New Orleans and Yes, the half I'm route is one of the only ways to get in distance. I can put you in touch with some people who may riding this weekend.

For a 1 hr ride, I would just do the Lakefront loop. About an 11 mile loop with a few bridges and levee crossings. Basically, this is now the HIM run course.

For a 5 hr ride, I would do a ride similar to the HIM ride. Something like this: https://www.strava.com/activities/193991101 You can also shorten this route some and ride the Metairie lakefront route https://www.strava.com/activities/289432670. The Metairie lakefront is very flat and very fast but you need to sometimes watch for kids, cruisers, runners, etc.

Some combinations of these three routes should get you all you need for your weekend rides. Like Mark mentioned, you can check out the New Orleans Bicycle Clue ride site at http://www.neworleansbicycleclub.org/rides.htm The Giro ride is very fast and very competitive. I would not recommend heading to this ride planning to ride a TT bike. I wont say that some people done occasionally do it, but I wouldnt. The tri group usually heads out on the same Giro route but maybe about a 30 minute later start. The tri group is not as punctual as the roadies.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

I'll second most of what Brandon suggested.  One other option if you are staying downtown/French Quarter is to check out Semi-Tough Cycling Club on Facebook.  They do a group ride Saturday morning that starts at a coffee shop, does most of the IM bike route, then usually finishes up with some beers after.
