Not sure if everyone saw the thread in one of the other forums, so I thought I woudl start one here.

Who's going?

Anyone want to meet up for lunch or dinner on Thursday or Friday?

Where are you staying?

I'll be there.  I'm staying at the marriott residence Inn there in Oceanside.

  •  i will be there - live in nearby Carlsbad.

Keep me posted on dinner - Thursday might be best.

    Tom

  • I'll be in on Saturday and Sunday, but will not be racing.

I would like to meet up during the race to spectate the run and/or after the race for lunch, just let me know.

    My cell is 847-456-6845.
  • Bumping this thread as the race is only a few days away.

I'll be getting to the race around 11 and hanging out until 3 around the run course, expo and finish areas. Anyone that is interested in meeting up can call me.

I'm also going to try and get a run in on Sunday morning and Monday morning if anyone is interested.

Good luck to those that are racing.
  • Ok, I'm in, let's make this the "official" thread:

    • I'm riding down from my place with Brian Massey on Saturday. He doesn't know it yet but we are wheels up at 7am and Tt'ing down there . Oceanside is 100 miles from my house, so look for a "place your bets on the Strauss/Massey Century" thread soon. We should be down there by 12-12:30p at the latest.
    • Tom, do you know if a outdoor restaurant on the strand or within view of the race? In a perfect world, carne asada tacos and Dos Equis. I'd like to pick a central location where we'll be and you guys racing can stop by afterwards. I have a ride back to LA that will leave around 5p.
    • As an alternative, a guy in my tri club is hosting a post-race party at his condo, maybe on the course. I plan to contact him and that could be our meeting spot.
    • Regardless, I'll be on the run course with Brian. Where? Wherever you start to think about slowing down or walking, that's when I'm going to pop out of nowhere and kick you in the ass .

Matt, there are couple little mom and pop bike shops on PCH if you wanted to rent a beach cruiser to get around on. Parking down there can be tight on the weekends, especially with the race.

  • Cool, I will look for Rich and Brian on the run course.

I'm up for a close by restaurant and Mexican is always good.

  •  @Rich-

will recon the area - I know there is a small Mexican joint right across from Bucanneer Beach - limited fare - Usually a breakfast burrito place - not sure if they have cerveza - it is about a mile up from from the south turn around on the run loop.

i came home in marpat desert utilities today - but i will don some civies tomorrow on my way home from pendleton and get you some more information - other than that thought there isn't much on the Strand to my knowledge and most of Pacific is pretty residential from Wisconsin south.

it would be nice to hook up - just wish i had my EN top - oh well - that way you won't be able to identify me to kick my butt when I start walking after my "great bike split".

    Tom

  • Tom, don't go crazy. They have this thing called the Interwebs that allows you to research stuff and stuff. I'll check it out and see what I find.

Brian and I will be in EN cycling kit so you should see us.

  •  No worries - I am driving through Oside every day this week and I usually ride along the coast at least once a week.

    Tom

  • I will be in race also. Bummed I am old now and my wave start is near the end of all waves. On a positiver note, means I get to pass a lot of people on the bike and run.
I am arriving in Oceanside mid Fri afternoon.
  • I will be driving into Oceanside Sat morning. My cell# is 916 276-4608. Call me as I'd love to meet you.

    Vince
  • I'm down in Oceanside now.I start around 7am or so. I'll be wearing my EN bike shirt, so keep an eye out for me. I'd love to meet up afterwards. Just let me know where/when.

    Peter
  • Peter -

I have light work day today (thurs) - I am going to pick up registration around 2 -2:30 pm today.  I may do a open water swim tomorrow on base if you want to join me - or I might hit the Carlsbad Pool for an easy swim.

    My cell is 760-583-8004

    Tom

  • I will also be on twitter during the weekend if anyone follows that. vincehoffart is the clever name to look for.

    V
  • Hi guys,

I'm here in Oceanside and ready to race (sort-of).  I like to stay under the radar, but I didn't want you all to think it was just a guys's event!

Best of luck to everyone on Saturday!

    Patty

  • Patty... Glad to hear you are here!

Tom- I hope to check in around that time also (depends on how kids are doing...). If so, I will give you a call... I'll be wearing my red EN shirt. I wish I could do the ow swim with you.. I could really use the practice, but I have to go to Palm Springs for a funeral on Friday.
  • Please post location of after party for Sat afternoon where Rich will be buying all team members ice cold brew.
  •  @Rich

I reconned the area - there is Casa de Ronaldo MacDonaldo - with limited Mexican fare - Hamberguesas and Hamberguesas con queso under the pier. And that is it. No cerveza.

I recommend Breakwater Brewing (on Coast Highway one block south of Mission - Sea Gaze I think) - Southeast corner of the block with the movie theater just east of the pier.

  • RnP,

Rich, sorry I couldn't meet you yesterday - I guess I gave it my "all"!

I want to thank you guys - my improvement of 8 minutes on the bike from my last attempt in 2006 is a perfect example of how this program really works!

    Rock on!
