Thanks that is what I was thinking was focus on run quality. I also like the fact the run will be done so I can just enjoy,well as much as you enjoy an EN bike ride, my ride
Mostly ^this.^ For me, I know I can do a 35-40' run in cool weather at ~8'/mi pace if I do this run before a long Saturday ride, for example. That same run done as a post ride brick run would likely be at 8:30-9' pace in the heat.
The key, for me, is I need to be aware of and leave myself time to eat between the end of the run and the start of the bike. And the longer the pre-ride run the lazy-er I am with starting my ride. So the sweet spot for me is to know out a 30-40' run before the bike. My bike is not affected at all by this run and I run faster than I would if I were to run off the bike.
Yes, later in the plan we have you running off the bike. I used these runs last year to dial in my pace and HR for the first ~6 miles of the IM marathon.
