IamTri Course Ride dates

EN IMLOU'ers... Here are some dates that Bob (local here from Lexington) will be hosting some course rides,  Be aware- Bob isn't a coach (and doesn't claim to be) so this is just an opportunity to ride with a group with SAG.  Super nice guy!

If you guys would like to do an EN organized course ride, I will be happy to take the group out and provide any support I can.  A suggestion if that would be of interest, Headfirst Performance puts on a HIM mid July and the swim is in the Ohio, just upstream a few miles from the actual race course.  They will let you do the swim for a small fee (around $20) after the HIM folks are off, so if you plan a course ride that weekend, you can also get in a race rehearsal swim.  (1 1/4 miles).  Just let me know!

Hey Future Ironman Louisville Finishers (YES YOU WILL!),

I wanted to get a message out to all of you about our group ride weekends planned for this spring and summer.

Our four dates planned are as follows:

Saturday, May 22nd

Saturday, June 12th

Saturday, July 10th

Saturday, July 31st

If you are planning on doing one or more of these rides I need you to RSVP so that I can plan to have adaquate SAG supplies (bagels, peanut butter, energy bars, bananas, water, Gatorade, etc...)  We ask that each participatn contribute to the SAG fund ($10 recommended) to help cover our costs (gas, wristbands, food, drink).

We will meet at the YELLOW LOT on River Road near the IMKY swim start.  Your best bet is to Mapquest the following..... Tumbleweed's Restaurant, 1201 River Road, Louisville, KY 40602....The YELLOW LOT is 1/4 mile east (away from downtown Louisville) of Tumbleweed's Restaurant on the left hand side.

We will meet at 9am and get people signed in and getting their gear and bikes ready.  WE PLAN TO LEAVE THE YELLOW LOT AT 9:30am SHARP so plan accordingly in terms of your preparation.  There will be SAG stops at 4-5 places along the route.  We will all start out together as a group and then splinter into smaller ride groups based on speed.  We will likely have all levels of riders ranging from some cooking at 20-22mph down to the low teens...so all levels are welcomed.

Riders will have the choice of doing an 80 mile or full 112 mile ride.  The 80-miler is just one of the "La Grange loops" whereas the 112 miler is "two loops" and (obviously) the entire course.  Some may want to add a brick run following their ride which is fine.  There are areas around the Yellow Lot to do this.

Once the Ohio River water is warmer we will offer an 8-9am swim option for those interested but this won't happen until the ride weekends in June and July.

IMPORTANT---TO RSVP please either (1) Post a comment on the IMKY group page, (2) send me a note on my IAMTRI pers

    IMKYers,

I just got a copy of the message I sent out and must have been too lengthy as it cut off right when I was explaining how to RSVP....

    Three ways to RSVP:

    1.   Post a COMMENT on the IMKY 2010 group page OR in the DISCUSSION (top of page) about the group rides.

    2.   Post a COMMENT on my personal page that you are coming.

    3.   Email me at BobBaney@hotmail.com

Thanks.  These rides will be great and you'll be much better prepared come race day if you have seen and "felt" the course firsthand.

I'm looking forward to meeting many of you on one of these group rides.

We already have 25-30 registereed for May 22nd so it will be a good group and fun!

Pleae RSVP if you are coming.  THANKS!

    Bob

  •  Lastly...  I would highly recommend the IM Course talk that Rich & Patrick did (in the EN store).  Very good stuff that will have feeling like YOU live on the course.  As of now, on the bike route, Wolf Pen Road (abt mile 9-10 outbound) is still in the course and will likely be come race day (they have a bridge on River Road closed for repairs).

  • Kris, thanks so much.  Ordered the premium course talk with the discount.  Will RSVP to Bob for one or two of the rides.  Hope to see many of you there!

  •  Thanks Kris!  Let's all post if and when we are doing this.  I will definitely do one of them.  Thanks again for the info!

  • Hi all! I'm riding the course on May 22nd! I've been a member of iamtri for almost a year, and have looked forward to the course rides! It will be great to meet everyone from iamtri and all of you!!! I hope to go back down for the June 12th and July 30th rides. I'm doing Muncie on July 10th. Who else is going down in May?
  • I wish I could make it up for one of the ride, the distance is just a little too far. I gues I will have to order the IM course talk video.
  • Also.. in addition to Cardinal Harbour opportunity for a swim, there is a swim scheduled for early Aug in Ohio. Search it out on Active.com. Please be aware- the river is NOT safe to swim in alone, you are NOT legally allowed to swim where the race start is (close to Tumbleweed) so please take advantage of as many official group swim events that are offered. You'll also have 2 Gatorade practice swim's as well race week so not to worry- plenty of chances to swim!
