  • My bike is going FedEx . Tracking # 908424110000010. Rich, I set it up so you should get an email when it's actually about to be delivered.

As of this moment it's apparently in Charlotte, NC and scheduled for delivery to Rich's front door on May 7 (which is actually a LOT faster than I thought).
  • I know it's crazy....but I can't live without my bike for a week before and a week after....so I'm paying up for a service that ships bikes in 2 days.

So Rich a question or 2:

    1) Exactly what day do want the bike....and what day do you want me to have them pick it up.
    2) I can have them deliver/pick up at a specific time on those dates. So what exact time (on the half hour) works for you that won't have you waiting around for the typical 2 hour time slot.

I'll give them your cell so they can call with any questions if they have a problem.

    Thanks
  • Larry,

Your bike needs to be here no later than THURSDAY. However, if this something I need to wait around and sign for, please have it arrive to me on WEDNESDAY, as I'm busy on Thursday with picking up Dan and Patrick from LAX, getting the vans, and other admin stuff. I have a full day and can't burn a couple hours waiting for deliveries.

Would be great if they could pick it up on Monday so I don't have to manage a ton of bike boxes in my living room for days.

    Again, ship to:

    Rich Strauss

    607 Parker Ave

    Monrovia, CA 91016

I will have it delivered on Wed and picked up Monday.  Is there a time of day that is better for you so you will not have to wait around?

I'd say anytime before 1p on Wednesday would be great. Definitely not after 4p.

Bike will be there Wed 5/12 and I requested it be delivered before 1pm.  They will call if it's a problem.  It will be picked up at 9am on Monday 5/24.  My cell is 312-560-0554 if you have a problem.  Thanks again....really looking forward to this week.

  • Rich went with fedex:

    045691410090700 & 045691410090717

Showing Saturday delivery! As I mentioned I am 2day'ing my crank on monday so I can get a few rides in up here.

    -Dave

  • Dave, do I need to be around to sign for it...cuz I won't be, not on a Saturday. I won't be done riding until 1-2pm. Let me know, thanks.

  • Yeah no worries, if nobody is there I think they will try again on tuesday. I did ask for signature. I think fedex does the stupid home delivery thing so they are on tuesday -> saturday other than monday -> friday.

I put my number as the contact for both since I didn't have your number handy. So worst case dude calls me and I tell him to come back later.

    -Dave

  • Ok. I'll leave a note on the door, see if that works.

FedEx and UPS guys are going to luv me next week

  • Dropped off my bike this morning at FedEx.

    Shipping # 135516810027991.

Shipbikes.com said 1-5 days, don't know what that EXACTLY means, but i sure HOPE that it makes it in time to you.

yes, they said it also requires a signature, but with the vagueness of the delivery date, I don't know how they can honestly expect it.

Also, in my bike hard case, I have other things:

Target plastic bag: skewers, pedals, pedal wrench (don't know why I put that in there, but I did), spare tubes, CO2 and extra tire 'boots' (enough for everyone I'm sure)

Plano cycling plastic bag: 1 clear rain jacket, 1 grey vest/sleeved jacket, 2 water bottles with my initials on them, bottle of electrolytes

In the bike box itself: 2 wheels, spare gatorskin tire, helmet (wrapped in bubble wrap) and my detached saddle (also in bubble wrap).

Phew, that's a lot of stuff in there!

  • Rich - just one last followup to my bike shipping service. They called me today to say they would do their best to get it there before 1pm on Wed, but can't guarantee it. They said if you had to leave the house, to leave a note on the front door saying it was OK to leave it without signature, and where you wanted it left (ie a safe spot in the back).

Let me know if this works for you.

    thanks
  • My bike is on the way. Hope FexEx guy like bikes :o
  • @Larry, etc.

Will do. I'll put a catch all note out there today and the delivery guys for FedEx and UPS kinda know me (I'm home, Joanne likes shoes, etc)

  • My bike is on the way: FedEx tracking #871327333293 due to arrive on Wednesday. FedEx doode couldn't really tell me what time of arrival because "It's going to a residential address". Pffft!

FedEx doode couldn't really tell me what time of arrival because "It's going to a residential address". Pffft!

Little does he realize there's gonna be about 4-5 other similar size boxes headed that way!!

My experience with FedEx (both here and living in DC) is that they tend to hit the "business" addresses during business hours and they leave the "residential" deliveries for the last run of the day.  Don't know if that's the same where Rich lives, but I'd bet they hit his neighborhood about the same time for every delivery.

  • Hobbs is now in Monrovia with Rich! Safe and Sound, I think!
  • Bikes Assembled:

    • Nemo
    • Kitima
    • Leigh
    • Dave Boyle
    • Mike Allen
    • Scott

Still waiting on a few more.

    • Larry, should be arriving today, correct?
    • Corso
    • Walter
    • Trent: flying with his
    • Socie

    All:

    • Check your bolts, particularly stem face plate. Everyone likes their handlebar tilt different so rather than try to figure out what you like I just slapped it on there. Just letting you know so you don't get a surprise the first time you brake or stand .
    • Lots of odds and ends (tubes, bags, helmets, shoes, etc. I'm going to toss it all in a couple bags, keeping it organized as best I can, and bring it up with us.
  • My bike is scheduled to be delivered today.
  • mine should be there today too
  • Hey Larry,

Your bike arrived yesterday and we'll assemble it today. Dan's arrived as well.

  • woo hoo....2 days and counting
