Looks like the facebook story.
What's Facebook? @Francis Picard
IMO, the people most responsible for originally creating, molding, and growing the Ironman image and subsequent brand strength are:
โข John Collins turning a random bar conversation into an actual thing,
โข Barry McDermott for first documenting the craziness involved, and
โข Valerie Silk for turning it into an event which would attract the annual attention of TV networks and, later, corporate advertisers.
โข Dave Scott, Mark Allen, and Paula Newby-Fraser deserve honorable mention for showing how to actually race and compete in the damn thing.
@Al Truscott - I would add Julie Moss for singlehandedly making the event famous on ABC Wide World of Sports.
I would definitely agree with Julie Moss. Those of us who have been doing Tri for more then 20-25 years ( 33 for me) all seem to have our first lasting memory of triathlon as the Julie Moss finish.
