My IMCDA Ride

So here's my IMCDA bike - a Giant Trinity Advanced SL-1...aka Dragon Fire.  The bike is still in very short supply in the states so I don't expect to see more than a few others, if any, in Idaho.  The wheels are stock 50mm deep dish but I'll be racing with a HED 3C tri-spoke on the front and HED Jet Disk on the rear.  The bike is all Dura-Ace 7900 except the brakes which are rear and under-mounted.   The stock cassette is a 12-23.  I'll be bringing a 12-27 so don't get excited!   There are NO bottle cage mounts on the frame so speedfill lovers will not like this bike.  I've got the XLAB torpedo mount on the front and XLAB carbon wing with gorilla gages on the rear.   I'll be using the Garmin Edge 500 on the mount to keep a sensor off the fork.   I got this bike in Feb and have raced 1 duathlon and 2 triathlons on it, so I know it works for me.   Next month folks...the IMSG RRs are getting my adrenaline up!

  • Sweet ride Paul! Nice!
  • Very nice! I really like how they have managed to hide almost all of the cabling. I typically spend more time tryingto figure out how to get cabling out of the airflow on my bikes, than actually building the bikes.
  • Paul, I use an Xlab superwing with the gorilla cages, and have had very bad luck when they're not pointing vertically.  Have you tossed any bottles going over bumpy roads at high speeds during a training ride?  Seeing the setup makes me a touch nervous.

Love to see a pic of you aboard it to see position!

  • @ Mike - My bottles appear to be aimed at 70 degrees and no problems. Last weekend I took the bike out for 120 miles on Saturday and 56 miles on Sunday...mostly smooth but went over cobblestone insets, many road/trail intersections, and some very rough roads. I've never come close to ejecting a bottle and have complete confidence in this system. On my old ride (QR Lucero) I had a Chrono aerobottle mounted on the down tube...and ejected that bottle in races many times even after I put velcro along the bottle backing. That system was retired! I'll have to get the wife to shoot a pic of me on it...very aggressive compared to my last ride, and apparently much faster too. I've broken all my training ride records on it. My retul fit sheet has more measurements than I understand, but with the elbow angle is 88-90 and the back angle is 19-22 degrees (right/left side). I know I have a shorter left foot so I'm probably a little screwed up on that side which might be why I have a perenially tight left hamstring.

  • That is one sweet looking bike, Paul! Too bad your competition won't be able to see it cuz you'll be going by them too FAST!!
  • @Kitma - I hope so, but if there's anything I'm going to use from EN when I race IMCDA it's going to be the 4 keys approach. So although I don't use power (or even HR), I will consciously work towards steady effort and allow the pack to go by on the uphills but crush them on the way down...all the while humming Coach P's mantra of patience & discipline!
