CDA Updates

Hi Team!

One of my co-workers took over my captain spot in transition for me this year so I could compete and I have a few updates for you about the race.  Just wanted to let you know so you can be well prepared before leaving for CDA in a few weeks.

- Gatorade is no longer sponsoring the swim course (I believe it is now sponsored by Powerbar), so this means no morning practices swims on the course.  There will not be WTC kayaks, canoes or lifeguards patrolling the swim course in the morning like there has been in previous years (there used to be morning swim practice from 7-10am Thursday-Saturday).  Swimming prior to race day will now be at your own risk.

- Gatorade will still be served on the course though; not Powerbar's endurance drink.

If any other updates come from the race directors, I'll be sure to let you guys know asap.  There has been some discussion that the run course might change (no out-back to North Idaho College exiting transition and instead, adding that .93 mi to the turnaround on Lake Shore Drive)...haven't heard the final word yet, but will pass that along if it changes.

Finally, they are pretty short on volunteers so far for this year (Spokane's Hoopfest 3-on-3 basketball tournament is the same weekend as Ironman this year, which draws a lot of people) so if your family/friends that are spectating are looking for something to do while cheering you on, volunteering could be a great way to pass the time!  I was a captain in transition and oversaw the gearbag area...this could be a really great spot for your family/friends to see you and hand you your stuff as you get through the race.  Here's the link for the volunteer website: http://www.doitsports.com/volunteer...t_id=23879 - but feel free to ask me any questions about volunteering too.  I've been a captain for three years and and volunteered the two races prior to that, so I think I could answer most questions about this.

Hope everyone is having a great week with training!

...There has been some discussion that the run course might change (no out-back to North Idaho College exiting transition and instead, adding that .93 mi to the turnaround on Lake Shore Drive)...

Well, that would be bad .. for several reasons. It's great to have that section for its shade, and a flat start to each loop. Also, it's a convenient place for spectators. THe special needs bags might not have room if forced to share very crowded lake side right at transition. And of course, adding more CLIMBING (i.e., going farther up the hill) ... in the sun ... is not something to look forward to.

I suppose the reason for the change is objection by the people who live along there right next to the park and lake?

  • I'm not sure where things are about changing the run course.  The race director (Mac Cavasar) spoke at a local triathlon group in late March about the race and the changes.  Once I heard about it, I asked my coworker to confirm everything.  So far the only answers I have are about the swim course and that they are still using Gatorade on course (in March it was said they would probably switch to Powerbar Endurance drink).

I was trying to visualize where they would squeeze in special needs if they moved it from W. Lakeshore Drive...I'm sure this is being brought into consideration though.  I'll see if I can put the pressure on to get a final answer if the run is changing.

  • The current information and map on the website shows no changes in the run course.
  • Thanks for the updates. Racers will have to be ready for anything for sure....regardless it's a beautiful course and your day is made/lost on the BIKE. Some warm up swims will be good, and there's that partitioned swim/beach area there for folks to use....

  • Hi Team!

So it is confirmed that the run course did not change from previous years, so good news for that.

Also, they posted the 2010 athlete guide today: http://www.ironmancda.com/10CDAathguide.pdf so be sure you check that out.

That is all I have for now!  Hope everyone has a great Memorial Day weekend!
