Are You In?
Training for a long-course tri is tough enough, adding fundraising is even harder. Who is going to take the challenge to do more this season? What are your personal goals and race targets? Please share so we can all be inspired!

I'm In!!!
I've always wanted to do fundraising but never felt strongly about one charity. Just a month ago I figured out what I wanted to do.
That a look at let me know what you think:

O.E. is one of the premier charities at Chicago Marathon. We have a tent in the charity village. Any EN athletes doing Chicago should come say hi!
Theresa and I had so much fun with the guess Abigial's birthdate, gender, weight and height I decided to do this.
Nemo, you are more then welcome to take the idea... I only ask of a donation in exchange ;-)
Thanks!
Great job from those that are also doing a charity challenge.
@Matt - This is a great idea. I will have to wait until late in the season to see some results, how Boston goes and early season tri results. There are so many factors including your improvement and how much wind there will be in Kona this year. Maybe I'll just have to throw in a coulpe guesses, for good wind year vs bad wind year. I know I should be able to get a feel for your increase in speed from the race reports.

FYI- I got a little good news today on my fundraising. The company I work for doesn't really have a "matching funds" kinda program. But they do have a policy for promoting folks to volunteer in their local communities (so many hours per month out of the workweek kinda deal) and they do a lot of local sponsored events too. But the focus for their charity/volunteer initiative is on promoting science & math for kids- so my charity doesn't really fit their mission. I went ahead and sent the program coordinator a little FYI message to tell them what I was doing anyway on the off chance that maybe they'd like to use the story in one of their marketing promos (which I thought would be a win-win). I got a response today that said if I was going to do at least 50 hours of training for the event, that they would donate $250 to my charity. 50 hours!!! HA HA HA! Yeah, I'm pretty sure I can squeeze in 50 hours of training between now and September!!!
Anyway- my point here is to take a chance. Even if you don't think your company (or whoever) is going to want to donate or help you out, it's worth sending a note to see what might happen. You just never know.

I have just finished week one (out of 20) training for Ironman Wisconsin, September 12, 2010.

In conjunction with Janus Charity Challenge, I am raising donations for www.gregmillerministries.org.
I got to know Greg (an American from Ohio) and his family while on a mission trip with a team from www.newlifechurch.tv to Guatemala in March 2010.

That week was an "Adventure of a Lifetime". Wow!

In five remote villages, I helped with kid activities, visited homes, performed in dramas, served dinner, handed out food parcels and shared God's love for them. I fell in love with the people. In fact, it was hard to say goodbye. They couldn't believe that we had traveled so far to visit them as they are considered to be "forgotten."
When I returned home, I knew I wanted to raise donations and awareness for this ministry while training for my next "Adventure of a Lifetime". Yes, my fifth Ironman! On September 12th in Madison, WI, I will be swimming 2.4 miles in a lake, biking 112 miles on a hilly technical course and then running 26.2 hilly miles all IN ONE DAY!

"Anything is possible" is the Ironman motto and this holds true for me as I wasn't an athlete. No, I started running/swimming six years ago and cycling five years ago. I thank God for my health and endurance and am very excited to be doing this event all the while thinking of those Guatemalan children: hungry, with tattered clothing, sometimes cold at night, eager to receive love living in the high, remote mountain villages. They are not "forgotten" to me.

In fact, my second son, Andrew (about to graduate H.S.) also went with me to Guatemala and has decided to live with Greg and spend the summer helping the Chorti Indians!!

I signed up for the Janus Charity Challenge last night.
Charity: Homes For Our Troops
Since I work in healthcare, I am always donating to this or that medical cause. Recently I had a patient telling me about her brother losing both legs in Afghanistan. While rehabbing at Walter Reed, he was selected to have his home built and modified to accomodate his needs. This is the charity. Her story was very compelling. I looked into the charity and am really excited to help.
I will post a link to my page once I feel like I have done it justice.
