  • You guys have any 70.3s (or other IMs) before the race in November?  What are you doing training-wise?  Out Season?

  • Hey Steve - have UK70.3 in 2 weeks time then back to RnP for how to plan for Coz - chance (need to enter) a local Oly in 3wks (local so rude not too!) and then a HIM in Wk 1 september - thats it for me. The Sept HIM should hopefully serve to provide a bit of focus in the interim weeks.

    Hows about you?
  • I can tell you what they'll say...because I went through it recently too - go back into Out Season and capture as much of it as you can, then hit the IM plan at about 8-10 weeks out.  The OS plan can be modified with the outdoor bike option and maybe some extra z1 run time on the weekend to insert some volume, especially if you still stick to the Big Days and RRs as they are prescribed.  With your other races, assuming they aren't A races, I think this is the way to go...

Go nail the 70.3 and then we'll all start getting dialed in!

  • Hi Steve - yep, thinking on similar lines; get the 70.3 out the way, have some down-time & evaluate strengths & weaknesses inorder to pimp some OS weeks - definitely going to attempt a big Tri week once again or just BBW to get the distance in my legs.
  • Hi Guys . I have just completed Iron Man South Africa so I do not plan any races other than a few half marathons or 100km road races . I plan to start building up again from around the 14th June . At the moment I am just keeping fit and building on strength with pilates and yoga . If any of you hear or read anything about the race that could help please let us know . Also closer to the time lets plan to meet somewhere before the race to say HI ! I am really looking forward to Cozumel .
  • Hi all, I'm doing Coz again this year - awesome race with great local support - ask any questions you may have and I'll do my best to point you guys in the right direction....I'm doing IMUSA (probably only gonna do the swim/bike and about an hour to hour and a half of the run as I wanna really prep right for Coz)....then a couple sprints, a half IM second week of september - then really hit the EN plan hard for Coz - I gotta redeem myself!

  • Doug...I gotta ask: why in the heck would you go to IMUSA and then bugger out before the end? I can't imagine a great reason to go and not really 'go'. It seems to me it should be all or nothing.

Just curious what your reasoning is?

Also, I will certainly be one to ask some questions about everything when we get closer to time...first one; what should we expect the swim conditions to be like?
  • I am headed to Mexico after freezing in Utah in May seemed like a good thing to do. Doug-what kind of advice can you give in terms of bike transport and where to stay? I have a couple of HIMs just to keep out of trouble-doing RI 70.3 and then a race in Maryland called Savage Man
  • Sheryl: I flew in to Cancun then took a bus down to Playa del Carmen, then the ferry over - kinda pain but no big problems - if you can get a flight into Coz directly I recommend it (USAir only flies in/out of Coz on Saturdays...)...I rented a condo right across the street from the finish line (dumb luck via the internets)....I've since befriended the owner of the condo and am renting the same place again this year (the condos are called El Cantil Condo's)...If you'd like I could shoot him an email and see if he's got other units available (they are all rented privately so he may know someone willing to rent)....there are plenty of other places to rent...I recommend renting "In town" and taking transport down to the swim start as the swim is about 10 miles south of the finish line

Speaking of the swim - it's AWESOME! Crystal clear water, warm (I used a TYR sayanora skin), fish everywhere - laughing at us 'cause we can't swim!  There was some current this past year (not too bad) so they moved the start line further up so we could get a longer down-stream leg...something I learned after the fact about the swim - If swiming in to the current, stay as close to the shoreline as possible before turning to the buoy as the current is less strong and may even be counter-current the closer to land you get - that knowledge should help this year!

  • Doug

Hey bud...we are glad to have you on board - I think we will have a respectable showing (as team EN) there on Cozumel!

When we get closer...or, really, as we go along...I hope you don't mind us seeking course thoughts/advice from you!?

Course question - tell me about this wind...how much with you, against you, from side; how strong? I want to try to get my head around it and will be seeking out training in windy conditions as much as possible.

    Thanks!
  • Doug-if you have a chance and don't mind that would be great to see if any other condos are available.  I didn't even think about that. My email is schnecks5@yahoo.com. I will look into the direct flights-the whole family is coming.  So if the start is 10 miles south are there 2 transition areas?  Thanks for your insight, I am sure I will have more questions

    Sheryl

  • Hey all,

I will be there. My first IM.

Doing the halfmax 70.3 in October (8 weeks before) and some smaller stuff in Sept.

    Really looking forward to it!

  • Hi all - Coz has its own Group on EN now - sign up!
Anyone do a funky IMCoz signature??
  • Hey folks - had to bail on Cozumel unfortunately - just cancelled flights & hotel booking. My hamstring ligament injury is still an issue and only swimming at the moment - looks like it could be a long rehab to get to the point where I could train seriously for an IM.
Could push it but I know i'll probably be in a worse position after the event and wreck my 2011 OS - gotta know when to stand-down!

Good luck all - have to kick ya butts another time!
  •  David,

Sorry to hear about you missing IM Coz. I am sure you made the right decision. Better to heal now than suffer for additional seasons of subpar perfomance.

  •  Hello all,

I am in for IM Coz.  Just now booking flights but doing the rest (hotel, transport, etc) with Endurance Sports Travel.  We used them for IM New Zealand and IM Western Australia.  They are GREAT!

I just finished IM Louisville and have a half IM on November 13 to do before IM Coz.  I cannot wait to spend Thanksgiving in Cozumel.

    Allan
