Week 6

Nothing to report yet as I slept in this morning.  I am tired from the weekend riding.  I have my swimming stuff for lunch and the 60' run after work.

  • @Gordon I should have slept in too Mon was hell for me at work, got zero training in...... will get yesterday's run and swim in today, swim tomorrow am before evening bike/run. I have 6hr ride sat. Been thinking how about going out 6hrs as opposed to an out and back, and do a BandB with wife and have some non-tri fun sunday.
  • Tim,

I got in Monday's run on Tuesday and no swims due to work teleconferences.  Just make sure that you are not stacking in missed workouts too much.  Perhaps let the swim go so that you don't want to effect the Saturday 6h RR.

The B&B with the wife is one step above me on the SAU scale.  I told my wife that if I was feeling good, meaning 1/2 alive after the RR that we would take the boat to the provincial park for the day on Sunday.  Of course this would have the requisite sleep in and late start but most of the day would be at the park.  I think my comments pretty much committed me to going so I'd better not burn myself  out with a .75 IF on the bike or something stupid like that.

  • Ahh Friday, got thru that Tue-Wed_Thur grind. Bike went well Wed as did the RoB. Last nights' run went pretty darn good. 2:18 total run time and managed to almost keep my pace for the entire run segments. Will seehow todays' 40min run goes, just noticed the workout has UPHILL strides, yuck. All geared for tomorro's 6hr epic. I have my wife in truck with fluids/orange slices and a cooler with ice-towel that I can put over my face if too hot. Booked a B&B at 156k with hot-tub and sauna, can't wait for the breakfast part.

Have a great and safe training day tomorrow. Race getting clode, taper closer.......
  • This was a bit of a screwy week for me - as if blowing a hole in my schedule with GWN wasn't enough, I did one leg of a mountain adventure race on Sunday (still need to do a brief RR on that) that beat the crap out of quads (steep downhill) so needed to be a bit creative with the schedule.

Swimming and biking were ok, running not so much until later in the week.  In spite of that, managed to get most (which is another way of saying "not all") of the work done.  Really looking forward to the long rides this weekend (I'm switching this weekend with next) and getting 100% back on track for next week and the home stretch.

  • Excellent work out there this week.

I got through yesterday's run, my worst in a long time.  Due to the poor effort yesterday, I just could not hold the faster paces I canned today's run.

I hit the university pool at noon today and got in 3500M in 1:19:20.  Which is decent for me.  At Lake Placid in 2004 I swam a 1:31.  So given the limited swim training I am set up for a 1:25-1:26.  Perhaps I can go a little faster with a wetsuit and drafting, or get in a scrum and go a little slower.  I'd take anything under 1:31 and 1:20 would be crazy fast for me.

I'm looking forward to the RR tomorrow.
