  • Thanks for the advice Matt. I struggle in the heat so this could be a big challenge.

  • Hi all,
My name is Yasko Howell (female) and I am 45, a new EN member joined recently, and live in Olympia, WA. This will be my 3rd Ironman. I had a plan to do IM China in March with my husband, but pulled my calf muscle 2 months prior to the race and couldn't stat, so have decided to do IMLouisville image My very first triathlon race was Danskin Women's (sprint) back in 2001, and since then, I have been doing sprint/olympic/HIM, and finally did my first IM in AZ in '06, and IMJapan in '07. My time was 12:50 in IMJapan. My goal is to execute to the race plan and have smile on my face when I cross the finish line. (and do a cartwheel, maybe) Would love to improve my time close to 12hr. I don't think I will have a chance to go over there before the race, but will look into buying the bike course video by CompuTrainer and ride the course virtually. I am looking forward to making improvements on my bike with the EN training plan and meeting with all of you there image

  • Welcome Yasko! Sorry to hear you had to bag China! That one is on my 'to do' list. I did run the Great Wall Marathon there in 2005. Glad you chose IMLOU! How was IMJapan? Would love to hear about it.
As for L'Ville, definately get the DVD to ride the course virtually. Since you live in WA, I would imagine that 'hills' won't be a problem for you. There are rolling hills, that keep on coming. Lots of shifting. Being a flatlander, I was challenged when I rode part of the course last weekend, but it was doable. Get used to riding in traffic, as there is no shoulder on the road, and you are out there with traffic.
My goal is to have a good time and finish!! image
  • I'm in for IMKY as well.

I did this race last year and we were blessed with fantastic weather. I bet this year will be typical hot and muggy KY summer conditions. I finished right at 12 hours last year (despite walking most of the marathon). Number one goal is (always) to finish. Number two goal is to do better than 12 hours. Actually, based on how I'm feeling with my running and biking, I'd love to be around 10:30. Prob impossible because EVERYTHING would have to be perfect FOR ME but a man can dream.

Alan, you're similar to my goals. I had problems with inadequate gearing on the bike and only a 5:06 marathon. 12:37 overall. My goal this year is sub12. Hopefully......maybe faster. Will you have your EN Jersey on so maybe we'll find each other on the course

Unfortunately, I do not have an EN jersey.  My wife always hates having to scan for me on the race course so she purchased a neon yellow tri top from TYR.  Tried it out this past weekend at the Hawaii 70.3 and she said it worked like a charm (she could spot me easily everytime).  With that being said, I will be in a neon yellow tri top unless my wife finds flashing lights she can place all over my body to make me even more easy to spot image

I will look for you at the pre race EN dinner or EN talk.  It would ceertainly be nice to have someone to offer encouragement to and also someone to push me along.

  • Franklin, Jason, Carrie, and Allan, you all need to post real photos of yourselves so we know who you are, at the race! I have to post a new pic of me that shows my face better. Have to re-read how to post photos on here. That's why I never have any posted!
I'm getting excited about the race! Allan, glad you're doing Lou again. You can give us newbies some advice how to handle that course. (Along with the coaches' course download as well! image
  • Sorry Guys, I've been MIA! I just got married a week ago so the past few months have been a little crazy. I've just been trying to get my workouts in when I could. Anyway, I'm back and ready to buckle down for the next 8 weeks!
My name is Chad Scott and I'm in ATL. This will be my 3rd Ironman (IMAZ -15:20, IMFL - 11:40), but only my second EN style.
My goal is to finish under 11:15, and if I execute my race plan then I should be close to this.
  • Hi Chad! Welcome to the group! Congratulations on your wedding! That must have taken some juggling, training for an IM while planning for a wedding! You ARE an IM! LOL!
Look forward to meeting you in L'Ville.

Michael, Im looking forward to racing with you again this year.  Lets make a deal - NO Cramps on the run for either of us this year.  I an also shooting for a sub 12.  Just did CDA and hit a 12:12 with major cramping issues on the run.

Lets rock this race the EN way.

    Matt

Did you take alot of breaks? Have 50 min. of downtime!
Just wonderin'......is the course thta slow that 193watts only gets you 17.8mph?

  • I rode pretty conservative the first day, a buddy got a flat, we stopped a lot stop lights, traffic etc. But yeah, it is pretty slow. I rode florida @ 190 ish and went 5:19 didn't draft. Sure hope Lou isn't that slow

I've done both IMFL and IMLOU........no doubt IMOU is slower than FL but from what Ive heard is faster thanWISC.......Lots of rollers. Many hills from 30 sec to 3 min. THe one out and back section has a HUGE hill each way......kinda scary. If you did 5:19 at IMFL,, you'll be slower at LOU.

  • Lou is deceptively hard...with all those rollers you really need to execute well from minute 1 so you can push the downhills and have strength for when / if the wind pics up at the end!!! Oh, and then run... image
  • You've got that right, Patrick! Been there, ridden it, and am going back down on July 24th, to do the full 112. I definately have a lot of respect for the course!
