20 Weeks Starts Jul 12 - right?

Just a 'heads' up to everyone...not that anyone has let this slip their mind!

20 weeks, by my calculation, starts on July 12th!  I don't know what everyone else is doing training-wise, but, I am in week 13 of OS and will be on wk 14 next week at the "20 weeks to go" mark.  I will be starting the 20 week IM Swim supplement...ought to be interesting to add swimming back to the mix!

Fired up!

  •  Funny you should post this, I was getting all geared up to start this week, but I am glad to have a week more of rest and play.

I had used the ideas I found from the ebooks and outher resources to do my own OS training.

I am looking forward to starting the plan, and getting ready to race!

  • You guys have lots of leadership from everyone else...can't wait to see the mojo and fitness build up!

  • I can't believe we are 20 weeks out!  I am so pumped!

Starting with swimming again tomorrow...that should get old by Friday, LOL!  The hardest part is now going to be just letting the training plans do the work...and not allow myself to start thinking about logging big distance.

No big deal...time to execute, not think!

    Good luck guys!

  • Hey folks! I mentioned 20 weeks to go to a non-athletic buddy of mine - 'that's nearly half a year, what you concerned about' ! Kinda balance you need sometimes, especially as we're all probably prone to getting a little intense by it all - hard not to I guess when the training is so focused, time-managed & often painful!

20 weeks to me represents needing to lose 10lbs - doable for me + I don't need an extra 1" of insulation on my body in 85 degrees/ 95% humidity - especially coming from a UK winter.
Also, been trying to scope out getting an extra week of acclimatisation in before the race week - the article that Al T posted up on heat management was a big reality check for me - sounds as though the only thing I can do in this regard in to use the summer 'heat' for dialling in the hydration strategy rather than specifically 'getting used to the heat' - not even close as yet to fully understand my nutritional/hydration needs, still trialling different methods & amounts.

So, hopefully I'll be able to travel out a week early & stay close to Miami (our flight connection point) & meet my wife Jules the following week.

Just starting my week 2 and have started OS again at week 1 with a few adaptations thrown in - see how it goes.

    What's everyone else up to?
  • Hi IMCOZ people ,

At last I am back on the forum . I have not been able to connect for the last month ? Not sure why but what ever was causing me connection problems stay away . It has been so frustrating wanting to read and reply to news !

Anyway I am on my advanced 20 weeks IM training plan . So far going well . The only problem I have is we are having winter right now so some of my bike rides are very chilly . I will also have to acclimatise so hot , humid weather . I plan to arrive a week early and lets hope it works as the skin can use up a lot of energy trying to cool down , just watch the guys on the tour de France .

I am staying in an apartment at EL CANTIL > all booked , the only flight I need to book is the Mayair one from Cancun . Also had problems booking that one , Internet again !

I have a few 10km and 21km races coming up which will help . I did a 100km road race a week ago , it went well .

    Glad to be back ,

  •  Hey All,

    So...how is it going?

This is my first time using an EN plan. Has anyone else used EN for other races?

  • Hi Elias , This will be my second IM with EN . I did IMSA in April . I felt it was a race outside the EN area that they were not familiar with . I am hoping with Cozumel to get more inside info and help . It is also going to be great to do a race with other EN people as in South Africa I was all on my own . The training plan is good and it is nice to see other people have the same problems as you on the forum . I think it is a great learning block .

How are you doing so far with the training ? I am doing a 21km run tomorrow with the club . Hate running 21 on my own . I do change my plan now and then to accommodate other sessions .

Good luck see you in Cozumel !
  • Tina, Thanks for the info.

I have a friend here in FLA who is signed up for IM SA for next year. He is very motivated and excited about doing the race in his home country!

I am excited about Cozumel as well. A few local triathletes I know are also coming down, but I am the only one who is using EN I think. I think EN has a race podcast about IM cozumel, so I may buy it.

Training is going well. I also "play" with the schedule a little, although I make sure to get in the long rides in EN style.

I am actually going to have to modify my plan a few times to accomodate travel and such, but should be able to be pretty solid the last 8-10 weeks (I hope).

I am doing a 17 K run tonight with my wife and a friend. Slightly slower than EN, but still good for the legs and lungs!

Where are you staying in COZ?

  • Hi Elias ,

I think IMCOZ is going to be a tougher race due to the conditions , heat and wind , than IMSA . The South African IM is well organised and the people are great . I am staying in a Condo at El Cantil , I think it it close to the finish ? I am hoping there will be transport going to the swim each day . I have just booked on Mayair , the island hopper , they said they give a special price to IMCOZ athletes but still charge $50 for the bike . Think they could have said no charge for bikes ! Anyway , its a holiday for my kids and I and we are really looking forward to it . My brother lives in New Jersey so we plan to stop over there after the race . Where will you be staying ? Is your wife also planning to do an IM . My husband used to but he does not have the time anymore to train , he might join in again next year .

Tell your friend to book accommodation early as the B&Bs close to the start always go quickly . Will see you in Coz . Good luck with the training , is this your first IM ?
