Week 7

Got two decent rides (3, 4) in on the weekend complete with great weather - did the Sunday ride as a point-to-point ending at some friends for dinner and manycoldbeers - always a nice finish.  Looking forward to the rescheduled RR next weekend.  Nice work out there this weekend guys!

Got a decent run in at lunch - felt good - swimming tonight - probably won't feel as good.

Have a good one gents.

  • So IMHO the real training starts this week. I say that because pushing the long run to 2.5hrs for the next couple of weeks is where our biggest gains will be (hopefully).

I am comming off injury from last year when I quit running in June and did not start again until this Jan. I feel pretty good after my 2 2hr+ runs so looking foward to tonight's 2.5.

Be carefull out-there we are fit and strong but we must remain focussed on these runs to ensure no tripping/ankle twisting stuff happens and pulling back if need be.
  • Agreed Tim.  2.5 run last night went pretty well.  Speaking of being careful, there was a weather warning (thundershowers) in effect and when I first headed out but I thought "doesn't look too bad".  About 45 minutes in it started looking pretty bad so I booted it home and finished indoor on the treadmill.  1:20 outside + 1:10 inside is a damn side better than 2:30 inside!  The nice thing about using the treadmill to finish was I didn't touch the down arrow on speed once - so none of that pace slowly drifting downward that you sometimes see at the end of long runs.

Also did an ice bath afterwards (just for old times' sake - I used to do them after long runs when I was doing marathon training) - did not miss those let me tell you but, placebo or not, they seem to work for me - feel good today.

RR#1 tomorrow - have a good weekend guys.

  • Great move on running inside. and yes the treadmill has its place. i do all my mon mile repeat runs on treadmill forcng me tyo keep pace.

We had spectacular weather for our long run. went well. did lose focus a bit and fell off pace but finished strong with no niggles.

good luck with RR. i so looking forward to RR2 as I am heading to do the course that weekend.

  • a very tough week 7 complete. wed ride went fine. thur 2:30 run went well, though my left ham wanted to tighten up during tempo stuff so i backed off just a tiny bit.
sat ride i found difficult to finish my legs were wiped. felt ok for sunday though.

19 days to taper...... bring on the last 2 big weeks...... anyone have a run TT this week? I am surprised there is one scheduled so late. mostly because long dist runners can get injured doing short fast race..... hummm I might bag it.
  • Week 7 went well for me also.  The Thursday runs leave me pretty run down but i'm usually fine coming into the weekends.  Went down to Southern Alberta (Medicine Hat) this past weekend and rode both my rides there.  You would think that the bald ass prairie would be flat but of course I found the most non-stop hilly route on Saturday.  I lived there all of my young life and I never ever saw this piece of road.  It's all good since the grind is only gonna be helpful come race day.  I'm not doing anymore VDOT or FTP testing until the next out season.  I don't see any point in changing the routine or potnetially injuring myself so close to race day.  I'm just going to go with what's in the toolbox now.

  • Craig, how did RR1 go?
