Home Ironman Louisville 2010

Let the countdown begin!! 30 days to IMLOU!!!

Okay all IMLOU peeps, we are on the home stretch!!  How is everyone feeling, physically and mentally?  What are you all working on the most at this time?  I am so hyped I cannot sit still!  Working on nailing my nutrition.  That is my dealio right now!  And of course, getting my head calmed down and aiming for a Zen-like calm regarding the race.  (I can see the vets all smiling at THAT comment and thinking, uh, yeah right!&#160image   Check in and let us know how you're doing!  Anyone else nervous??

  • Admittedly Im getting mentally tired of doing the long workouts (and with the prescribed intensity). Im finding Im dreading the 3000+ meter swim workouts (I think they're the hardest).

I will be ready to start the taper process after my RR #2 next weekend......

The heat and humidity are really adding a mental and physical fatigue component overall

  • Amen to all fo that Michael! Especially the heat and humidity! You have been really rockin' it sir! What an inspiration! You will have a fantastic race! I feel it!
  • Oops, meant all OF that, not all fo that! LOL!
  • Truthfully, I'm not feeling all that good. I haven't really felt good on a workout in about a week and half and can't figure out why. I get that I was fatigued last week because it was a tough week, but I completely blew up on my Threshold ride on Tuesday. I still feel like I'm fatigued, but I'm not letting up and will push threw the workouts. Especially since we only really have about a week and half of tough workouts.
Other then that, I too am getting excited for the race. All in all, I know that come race day I'll have fresh legs and be ready for whatever Louisville throws at me!
  • Chad, have you been staying hydrated enough? Do you take electrolytes? Don't know where you live, so I don't know if you are suffering with the heat/humidity issues that a lot of the Nation has been. Sounds like you might need a day off. This week would be a good time to do it. It can't hurt. What happened on your ride that you blew up? Not enough nutrition? I have had a nasty case of insomnia, and that has definately affected my workouts.
  • 30 days. Holy cow. I am starting to enter a major panic mode. Things keeping me up at night are thoughts like,"I haven't run enough!" or "I haven't biked enough!" or "I haven't swam enough!", "I haven't lost enough weight yet!" But then again I always feel that way before a race regardless of my preperation.

The heat has been difficult the last several weeks. My runs do not feel as robust and as strong as I would like. I am somewhat comforted by the fact that everyone else will be dealing with the same issue.

Will Rich and Patrick be at the race?

  • I assume you meant Patrick? image Yes, they have both said they were going to be there, if I recall correctly! I am certain that talking to them will help us to settle our nerves.
  • Barbara, I live in Atlanta GA, so the heat and humidity has been kicking my butt too, this weekend it was 100+ on both long rides. I do my workouts in the evenings too so I get the worst of it. I believe I've been hydrating enough, I eat a ton of fruit and drink lots of water. Now I have lost about 6 pounds, which was intentional in the past 3 weeks and hope to loose about 4 more before the race. So I've really been watching my diet, maybe that is what is getting me in combo with the heat but I think I'm getting enough nutrients, Im just eating really healthy.
When I blew up, I didn't crack mentally but I just couldn't hold my watts at threshold on the last set of 20'. I just didn't have the legs. Hopefully today's run will be a little better, I'll let you guys know how it goes.
Sorry that you are dealing with insomnia Barbara as I know that can be tiresome.
  • I'm starting to get excited but ready for the taper. The heat and humidity in Louisiana has been putting it on me. And as always those thoughts of "Have I done enough", enter the mind but I have faith that the EN plan has prepared me. Looking forword to meeting everyone.
  • Wow, I wish I didn't just see this thread. Was on a little vacation last week. It was definitely needed after a pretty intense July with a couple 800 TSS and one 600 plus TSS weeks I definitely need it.
Logisitics were a bitch and I split it into two parts did it all on the treadmill with about 2 hours inbetween but it is done. 1:42 and 30 minutes respectively. Good for somewhere between 18 and 19 miles. Held stong paces.
Ordered some New Desoto 400 mile shorts as well as some tri shorts aero downtube bottle, and a new aero drink holder as mine is missing the velcro. I need to find a source for just the rubber bands soon. The onsite store typically has a box of just the rubber bands.
  • EXCITED for you guys and can't wait for the 30 day countdown to IMWI!!

I  am in Chattanooga, TN  and suffering the heat with all of you. Also, in my previous 2 IMs, I  get terrible insomnia at the peak of training and am like a furnace at night.

Keep up the good work, you guys are almost there!!

  • Thanks for starting the thread Barb - I'm definitely feeling a serious buzz today, something about the 30-day mark! Wow..

Well it seems like most of us have been getting pretty heat-acclimated (maybe not Yasko ) so let's think positively that that's one less thing to worry about!

I go on vacation this Sat for a week. Very much looking forward to being able to train. Luckily it's that kind of beachy vacation on Cape Cod and I'll be able to slip away (from 18 people!) only slightly unnoticed.

I had an insomnia night this week, but when my husband asked if I was nervous about IM, I was happy to say that wasn't it. I do feel like the mental prep on EN is so helpful. The nerves will be back, but we are too busy working right now, amirite?

  • Thanks from me as well, Barbara for starting the thread. wow 30 more days!!

Aimee, you are right, I am probably the only one not heat-acclimated, and funny to say, but I am jealous for all of you in the heat image we had some upper 80 degree days in the last week, but are back again down to mid 70's throughout this week... It will definitely be my concern, and I am seriously thinking about going somewhere hot and bike, or find a gym with sauna and get my body used to it (heard about some ultra marathoners do it for the Death Valley ultra run race)..

I feel a bit less motivated this week, I think my body is in calorie deficit in the last couple weeks and just don't feel great. I usually don't loose any weight during IM training, but I have lost 5~8 lbs so far. I havel more appetite this week, and maybe with more sleep, I hope to get some mojo back. I am surprisingly calm and excited about the day to test my fitness. Still have some concerns on my bike pace (I am convinced that I need to purchase a powermeter image), but I will figure it out in the last RR next week.
  • That reminds me.....haven't been sleeping real solid throughout the night. Usually for me that a sign of overreaching alittle. Just gotta hang on for a week and a half!

  • Yep, the nerves are starting to flow now. But I think I am just about ready. Sorry to say but I am glad to hear I am not the only IMLV'r with problems. I just cant cool down at night when I get to bed, anyone that comes in the house thinks it feels like a ice cooler, but I am never cool enough. I have no problem sleepiing though as my body is beat from the two a days. The problem is that in trying to stay out of the heat of the day I have to wait so late in the evening to finish my workout that I am not finished until 8:30pm. I eat some dinner, do some personal things and its already 11pm and time for bed. If I didnt have to be at work by 6am it may not be so bad. I did complete a 15 mile run last night and felt like I could go on, I just hope on race day I am feeling that good and done way before 8:30pm.

@Yasko, let me send some of this Tampa, Fl heat your way!!

Also, in my previous 2 IMs, I  get terrible insomnia at the peak of training and am like a furnace at night.

Pretty much describes where I am. Can't seem to sleep soundly. My body is holding together but I'm so sleepy.

Heading to the beach for a few days with the extended family. Looking forward to flat rides & runs in the AM followed by afternoon naps on the sand! Haven't really unplugged from work, yet, in 2010. Crazy!

  • I did the Race Rehearsal #2 today since I have a schedule conflict for next week (driving to vacation). The weather broke and it was cloudy and about 76 on average. Very nice. My ride was a .67 IF and the run was .73 for 324 total TSS points. The swim last night was 76:40.

I am feeling pretty good. I have been hovering around the same weight for weeks. I guess I thought all the workouts would cause me to drop on the same pretty good diet but we put so much nutrition in during our workouts I am finding that isn't the case.

My boss is letting me get to my desk at 9am so I am doing the big swims and runs in the morning. I am blessed! I am glad you are getting it all in, Richard.

I am taking the family to Hilton Head, SC on vacation next week. I should get the heat acclimation for sure and can slip away for training like Aimee.

BTW, from a post by Rich about his schedule on Facebook, I believe that only Patrick will be at our race.

See you all at the Ole Spaghetti factory on Thursday, August 26th!
  • Hi everyone! 28 days until the BIG DANCE! Did my 4 hour ride yesterday. It went fairly well. For one thing, it was so much cooler here than has been, for months! Also, I didn't push too hard at the beginning as I usually do. Was able to flatten out some hills that previously were killer for me. I am getting closer to nailing my nutrition I think. Because of the ride I had yesterday, I am convinced that the heat really affects my climbing. I have acclimated like crazy, as it has been very hot here just like for most of you. However, taking in more nutrition and setting that timer to go off every 15 min. has helped a lot! I have a tendancy to forget to eat or drink, when I'm riding. Especially on the IMOU course. Training myself to stop that bad habit, as I WILL finish this race, and not in the last minute either!
So jealous of those of you going on vacation! Awesome! I live within 20 minute drive to Lake Michigan and the beach. Think I'll take some chill time there a couple of days this week, as I can.
Gotta get some breakfast in me now, as I have that 3 hr. ride today! Have a great day everyone! Rock IT!!! image
  • Just a hint.....please look at the "Three Bullets......"post by Coach P in the General Training Section where he asks for hint about IMLOU. Fell free to add to it or just read it and learn!

  • Yes Michael, I saw that, and posted some info. to help out as well. I am off to get on my trainer today for the bike test. Haven't done one in eons! Then a brick in this rainy/humid weather in Chicagoland. I'm thinking of doing my long bike tomorrow, and my long run Saturday. I have something going on Sat. night and think I'll have more time to rest/recover, from a 2 hr. run, vs. 6 hr. bike/run. [ 25 days until the race!!!!
  • Thanks for the hint, Michael. very helpful.
