Week 8
It's been off for me as I seem to have dug my self in to a little hole. I did a quick run today to loosen up and I will hit the long run tomorrow as my weekend rides will be shifted to friday and Saturday.

I had to bag my workout 20min into the bike yesterday. I was just too tired and had no power in me. Going to do some open water swimming tonight and then will pick up with Thurs long run.
Trying some new runners today so will do run on treadmill. I get stuck between 10 and 10 1/2 because my left foot is bigger. got to decide soon and get some miles in them.
There is 5k TT run thur which I have bagged and will do a 90min run fashioned after the others with 3x8' z3 sets.
Big Big Big bike weekend ahead.
Hang-in there guys.
Wayne - long shot so no worries if a) you don't get this in time or b) it doesn't work out for any number of reasons, but I'm in Calgary (mini-vacation with the fam), so if you're planning on doing your long run Thursday either early in the morning or mid-evening and want some company, let me know!
Will catch up when I'm back this weekend.
Calgary 70.3 coming up this weekend and I have to come out of it feeling fresh. Will do the race as a IM RR. Using the 70.3 run as my long run. Will train into the race with a swim on Friday then have a one day taper. ... must stay in my box, use IM pacing guidance, walk the aid stations, no racing allowed, not even at the end of the run
(Patience Discipline) . Will DNF if necessary to stay ready for IMC. Should be fun to have a well catered workout. Plan to mentally bring my 4 keys tool box to try out.
@ craig. Sorry man i'm shortening up the run today and earning some sau's by taking the wife out!!! catch up with you some other time.
@paul. Have a great race this weekend. I'll be out watching you guys. Are you gonna be sporting the jersey.
@ Tim - no need to feel guilty. Keep up the strong workouts.
@ Paul - Have a great race. I'm not sure how some people do it but I just don't enter a race unless I can push it. I guess you have much more discipline that I do. For this reason and due to a few other issues IMC will be my one and only tri race of the year. I might get in an October 5 or 10K.
I got the 2 hour run in on Thursday and it felt okay. Skipping the swim today which is not a problem. Oddly enough the swim has been going the best lately. I am a poster boy for the EN method on this. I have not swam in 3 years and only came back to the pool 16 weeks from IMC. I did a 1:31 in 2004 and with my pre RR swim did 3500M in 1:19 so very similar times. Of course I have to put in a similar effort on race day.

Full dress rehersal
Here is a photo of me. far left
Should be easy to spot with my colors.
Tuff call on what to wear. We will see.
Cheers
About 4 weeks to go. Time to get race ready!!!
@Paul. Yes, very colorful jersey!!! Do you train with Charlie Llewellyn. She was my quasi coach when she taught tri classes for the City of Calgary.
We live on the same street! She and her husband will be racing IMC.
I did the 4.5 hour saturday ride yesterday, due to family commitments this weekend. Not sure what happened I must have picked up some kind of stomach bug or perhaps mild food poisioning as I did not feel good last night.
So with that my plans are off and I will try to get in the 3 hour ABP on Sunday.

Carie
I have been babying some knee issues. I think it is from a bad brick where I could not find my form off the bike.
So yes, rather than pushing the pace on the runs I have been focusing on IM race pacing. At this point in training I have become very aware of every ache and pain.
Did you see the video on self-care coach P attach to last week’s training schedule, good stuff.
Today I ran my slowest 21 k ever at Calgary 70.3, was using IM pace guidance walking the aid stations, but had the energy to volunteer for two hours after.
Carie I hear you. Hold on, the taper is almost here.
Paul
@carie, to be honest i have struggled with keeping pace sometime, i thnk mostly to mental focus. i just keep visualizing running into penticton during my faster pace stuff and repeat fast-feet good form lead with the belly over and over again.
I have met and continually meet athletes who just want the race to be over already. this happens all the time in late july-early aug. all the hard stuff is behind us, niggles will go away, taper will leave us strong and ready.
heading to penticton this weekend for RR#2, will pass along any insight i recon for ya. it is getting smokey there, lots of small fires up and down the valley.
may travel thur so might have to move bike to tue run to wed. it takes 8 hours for us to get to penticton as we have 2hr ferry to get to mainland highway then it is beautiful drive to the valley.
good luck this week all.
To be honest, week 8 sucked big time for me. All my swims are getting cut short by little kids invading the pool space during lane swim time; I get in about 2000m and have to pull the plug before I kill someone!!! I was really disheartened this weekend when my powertap died; i'll have to pull that ASAP and get it sent back. The only good thing is my running and I continue to remain relatively injury free. Oh well, i'll press on and hopefully have a better week.
@Tim. Have a good ride in Penticton. I'll be waiting to hear how it went.
Carie,
I have dropped a lot of the faster stuff on the runs this week and last. I just did not have the energy. My plan for week 9 is to just get in the 2.5 at z1. If I have anything it will not be until the 2nd half of the run to ensure that I get the time in first. I also see that for the beginner plan there is only 1/2 between z1/z2.
