WEEK 10

Last 3 weeks before the big show. Train smart and safe. Start thinking stretching more often as we taper and massage when you can.

If get massages race week from a local that I have been seeing since 2007 so if anyone is interested I can pass on her contact info.

I am moving my ride tonight to wed as I have a speaking engagement tonight. Should not cause any grief as we have had bike wed long run thur most of the season. Got a great swim in last night and hope to feel great on run today as I hardly feel saturday's RR2.

Comments

  • OK so week is basically over and official taper begins.

My wed ride which consisted of 2x20min@z4 went well. I did them with new aero hed jet 60 wheels. Not sure I was any faster but maybe used less energy, jury still out. I do think they might be 1-2kph faster on flats but they feel sluggish on short hills i had on my ride.

2hr run went pretty good. I did not have a day off between bike and run and felt it. BUT it is in the books.

    Why so quiet?
  • Did a long run today nice and slow Z1 Z2. Went out at noon from work and just keep running " run Forest run" . It was just one of those days when you can go forever. Told my boss that it was my last looong run before IMC and that I would log the afternoon as vacation. "No" he said just make it up later. I think I will keep him on.

Going camping with the family this weekend.  Not taking the bike. Burned up all my SAUs

Will be extending my commute ride during the tapper.

  • So far so good this week.  I shortened up the run yesterday but got the 2x20's in.  I'm going to try my 2nd RR again this weekend hopefully with more success!!!

  • @wayne, good luck with RR.

  • Weekend went well. Hottest day of the year training for me Sat. I ended my welcomed shorten ride with a 6km climb directly into the unrelenting sun. The most fluids I took in a ride over 3 hrs. Too bad there was none of this heat last weekend in Penticton as it is scorcher there this weekend too. The weather should be back to normal by mid-week.
I did notice the volume/intensity cutback on yesterdays' bike this morning I almost felt short-changed ending at just over 2 hrs. Oh well, take the taper.

It is so warm here this evening a group of us are heading for a short swim in the lake. I will still dawn a wetsuit though a sleveless. HERE'S TO WEEK 11.
  • Week 10 in the books - felt pretty good.  I essentially did Week 9 because I had to skip RR#2 last week.

Only issue was logistics meant I had to skip the bike on Tuesday (ran instead).

Thursday long run went well - felt strong.  Did further break-in of the new shoes (and new socks) and got brutal blisters.  Turns out it was the socks (where the triangle seam meets by the ankle).  Further proof of "don't try anything new on race day" - old socks it is!

Friday 3800m swim was slow but steady.  Well, more slow than steady, but that's the longest I've ever swam continuously in my life.  Unfortunately I show up Friday after work and the competition pool is being prepped for a meet so I have to do it in the 25m warmup pool.  ARGH!

Took Saturday off and got RR#2 done on Sunday - will do up a separate post with that.

    <2 weeks to go!</div>

  • Starting to do some heat acclimatization. I have been doing all my runs with a tuque, long running pants and my heaviest tech shirt. Getting lots of strange looks but Penticton is 34'c and Calgary was 24c today.

  • @gordon and everyone else, I goofed this was for week 11 don't know why I named it week 10. oh well just the same.
