  • Finished!!!!!!

For me I made my top three goals

    Stay married

    Stay employed

Stay out of the med tents

Messed up the nutrition on the bike but came back for the run

Made one of my stretch targets -- a negative split in the marathon with a solid 10k at the end.

Ironman kicked my butt. Still a great day!

    Thanks to EN

  • @Paul:

Congrats on your finish. I heard it got pretty brutal out there with the winds and some rain. Sounds like August 29th was not the most ideal day to be doing Ironman this year. image
  • I finished, the bike was really brutal for me and I made the same stupid nutrition mistake I have made year after year....BUT I still came in with an 18 minute PR over last years race in CdA. Where's everyone??? I ran into a fellow EN fellow in kit before the swim. I hope everyone had a GREAT day!! What's on the bucket list for next year? Dana
  • Just got back home.  I'll get a report out in due time.  I met my goals of finishing, finishing in the daylight and finishing under 12 hours.  The end result probably may have been quicker with better dosing on the bike and run but i'll take the result for my first ironman.  Some brutal conditions out there at times......alot of COLD people out there.  Hope everyone got home safe.  The atmosphere was electric at the finish and the volunteers/support/aid was first class; no wonder this thing is already sold out for 2011.

  • Hi everyone,
Congratulations all around! I just walked in the door from the airport; drove 7 hours to Seattle yesterday then flew home to New York today. Boy are my legs swollen from all that sitting even with compression socks. HOT and humid here in NYC, almost forgot what that felt like. Alessandro, it was nice to meet you and thanks for the encouragement on the run. Sorry I didn't get to meet the rest of you. The report will be coming.
  • Paul, Dana, Wayne, Carie, Others,

It's almost Wednesday and no race reports yet image Love to hear details when time permits!

  • Hey Dana - if you're talking about the guy in the EN kit at the back of the REALLY long porta-potty line, that was me - great to meet you, as brief as it was!  Incidentally, I got out of that line at about 6:55!

Like others, race report to follow - unbelievably cool experience - very happy with the end result, although there is the small matter of 54 seconds I'd like to have back. image

Great work out there everyone - it was great to see a few of you out there before/during/after.
  • Hey Team EN! - Made it back home to Montreal from IMC safe and sound -- hope the same for all.

Here's my abbreviated race report; more detailed report to follow.  Overall time was 12:31:56, a  personal best by nearly one hour!   Training the EN way works!  Imagining what I can do with an outseason under my belt ... Hmmmnnn.  Nutrition was fantastic - after some trial and error, my Infinit formula is spot on.  Swim - 1:17:27.  This was my best IM swim.  Bike - 6:22:34.  A disappointment; no best set here. Yes, conditions on Yellow Lake climb were NASTY: cold, fierce head wind with hard rain thrown in (thankfully, hail had stopped by the time I got to this point) however, I could have dealt with this better.  My focus lapsed and this cost me a six hour bike split.  Felt great off the bike and I was ran well: 5:30/km seemed effortless.  Forced myself to slow down.  Negative split run by almost 14 minutes (4:36:44 as 2:25:38 and 2:11:06)!  And, I ran the whole way.  No IT band issues; all the stretching paid off!!!  Probably went too easy on first segment but hindsight is always clearer.

Regret that I only met one ENer pre-race (Carie Sumida) and that was too brief.  @Carie - you looked great on the run and congrats on your accomplishment.

Once rested I'll post a more detailed report.

    Cheers,

  • Craig great meeting you-good thing you hit the potties before the swim and not while on the bike course - the lines were really long and there were not very many of them out there! Alessandro-I do believe I saw you on the bike course several times, unless there was someone else near me with the same name! Congrats on your day! Congratulations to everyone - report to follow.

    Tom Glynn.....wait for it................ ;-)

    Dana
  • Great job by everyone.  I just finished 2/3rds of the course.  Cramps and muscles spazams shut me down.  Not sure this was nutrition related as it was cool.  It was just hard hauling my butt up the hills at well over my FPT.  My wife and I are still in Penticton doing some touring so I will download the powertap file later.

Sorry I did not get a chance to meet many, but I had a chance to talk with Craig race morning and it was great to meet you.

My report will follow next week.

    Gordon

  • Gordon - sorry to hear it but good job pushing through to T2 - that bike was pretty damn demoralizing from the out and back all the way to T2 and did very weird things to people's bodies.  Enjoy the rest of your time there, regroup and get the next one down the road!  It was fantastic meeting you before the race (thanks for flagging me down!) and seeing you again right before the swim.

For anyone that is interested, here's a spreadsheet that lets you do a bit more analysis of  IMC times:
