IMFL-8 weeks out

Hi,

How is everyone doing this week ?? I've been tweaking my weeks so that my long ride/ABP rides are wed and thursday.  Training has been going well, getting used to the big weeks. Weather has been nice and so much easier then august's 90's. Let's just hope that Florida will be as good :&#160image.

I haven't got lodging yet. I was kind of waiting for confirmation on oil spill swim venue changes but looks like it will be ok. So where is everybody staying ? Anybody know if RnP will be at the race?

Happy training everybody !

Nathalie

  • I have to tweak my week, too... but it should be okay.  I got in late last night (from WI - what a great experience) so today I'll do yesterday... planning on the run at lunch and swimming after work.  Then I'll only be a swim down and will figure out how to work it in.

Assuming Dan and I can tweak my new bike tonight, I'll try to do my trainer ride tomorrow morning on the new wheels - taking some video so Todd and I can start the fit process as I really, really need to get it outside this weekend to start getting used to it.

I didn't work out this weekend bc of WI... was prepared to but it just didn't happen... I feel guilty but it is what it is.  Glad I did get on the drainer and do my ABP ride on Friday before I left.

I'm staying at the Summit.  It's a condo-ish rental complex right next to the finish. When I was there last Nov I scoped out a bunch of places and several are walking distance (half mile or less) to the transtion/finish, but this is by far the nicest.  The apartments are big, have full kitchens... the property is beach front (well, they are all pretty much on the beach), with a few pools and a restaurant... I went into at least 4 and it was the one I wanted by far.  Admittedly, one was nicer, but it was a hotel (so no kitchenette), and wasn't particularly close - not a bad walk (somewhere between 1-2 miles) but not close enough for spectators to have a convenient home base... and with driving/parking as bad as it is, not a good choice.

  • Hi Girls~
Becky it sounds like you had a blast at IMMoo! Are you planning on doing the event next year? I've got some friends doing IMAZ so I'll be taking that trip...thinking it will be extra fun since I won't have any training looming! I may do that one next year.

Nathalie I'm staying at Boardwalk(host hotel). It has a full kitchen thankfully and I'm really glad it's right at the start. I found it on www.vrbo.com
If you try that you should be able to see lots of things available and it'll tell you how far from start. It was pretty easy.

Training is going well here too. Still suffering through some really hot temps with humidity to match but it usually tapers off in October. I'm looking forward to next week's 112 mi RR(so I don't have to do the intervals!) Last Sunday I rode the 3 hours and then ran 10miles(not on the plan) and it felt fine. I'm nervous about my run off the bike. I always go too fast on the bike and die on the run. I'm using HR not power(no time/energy to figure all that out right now) so I just wanted to see what I could expect my speed to be at that zone 1 low 2 HR. 18mph seemed fine for 3 hours but I'm planning to err on the side of caution race day and stick to 17mph. At this point I feel like my fitness is there, but my brain still needs training!

Hope all is going well with you guys. These long swims are mind numbing! I went to the lake today to get away from the chlorine! Nice change.

    Cheers,
    Lynda
  • Way to keep moving! I (P) will be at the race...gonna be fun fun fun!!! image
  • I'm scrambling to get in workouts wherever I can. August was nuts busy and September and October are equally busy. I've pretty much thrown out following the EN plans to a T and using them more as a rough outline at this point. As a consequence, I've adjusted my expectations. I'm staying at Shores of Panama City with the entire family, including mother in law!

Pat, glad to see you're coming to IMFL. Will bring my BU Crew sweatshirt for old time's sake.
  • WI was amazing... so much fun and so inspiring.  Great to meet so many people I've been chatting with on the forums since December!  Now it's time to buckle down... although my schedule is way outta whack.  Am down both swims this week... still need to run today, will after work.  If all goes well, I'll swim tomorrow after work and once this weekend, 2 is better than none... I haven't been in a pool in a week!  Not good!

Rode the new bike on the drainer yesterday.  Feels pretty good, still need to tweak the fit, but am hopeful that by the end of the weekend I'll have it dialed in a bit better - and will shoot another video for Todd (at TT bike fit)... fingers crossed it will be money by the time the RR rolls around next weekend.  I loaded up the nutrition system, too.  Put the speedfill on the frame and rigged a cage between the aero bars for infinit... looks a bit ghetto right now (used the speedfill super long re-usable zip ties) but want to get it all figured out and then will need to buy bigger zip ties to set it up a bit better.  Nervous about the weekend rides... new bike, new nutrition plan (1 20oz, 3 hour bottle of infinit)... but that's why we train, right?

Hope everyone is doing well... it'll be here before we know it.

I'm sure there are... at least I hope... but thought I'd ask:  any other first time IM'ers?  Any advice you can give me will be helpful.  I picked an "easy" course for this time out... and will get a taste of special needs at the Aqua Velo next weekend... but I'm taking notes from the RRs I read and trying to keep track of all the good advice I'm given along the way.

  • Hi,

Training is going pretty good for me as well, although I am following a completely different training plan since I just joined EN. I have been reducing my running mileage the past couple of weeks due to a past stress reaction in my foot that I has been bugging me as little. It's an injury that I got over a year ago, and still hasn't fully gone away. I figure that I'm better off getting to race day a little under trained then injured. The good thing is that this has allowed me to really focus on the bike which has always been a weakness for me.

I too am a first timer at the Ironman distance and will be staying at the Boardwalk. I am excited to meet you all in a few weeks!

  • Clint, you'll always be my two seat...I'll always be your bow-bitch. image Just do what you can on the plans, trying to get in one long run and one long ride...you have built a lot of fitness this year so no need to put tons of pressure on yourself right now. Getting psyched to see you all!

  • @Becky. I got reservations to the summit today !! I'm psyched ! I got a second floor room that has 2 full bathrooms ! ( 2 shower's at once !..or more likely ice bath and a shower ; ) plus it has a washer and dryer ! For less then 100/night it's amazing how much cheaper then it is from LP or anywhere else really for those kind of accomodations .

@ Coach P. Sooo excited that you are coming. I can't wait to meet you in person and to see you at mile 18 : )

I had a great long run today and now the training as become more routine then dread which is great..I'm excited to do my 1 RR next week ! Dial in that nutrition. Got a nutrition plan, hope it works !!

Great training everybody ! Almost there..7 weeks around the corner !

  • Hello!

Training is going good. Had a great ride this morning even though it was hot, humid and windy (as usual here in El Salvador). Tough conditions during training build character...or at least that is what I tell myself!! No flats which was good since last weekend I had two flats on the saturday ride which cut my workout short.

Had a good training week overall. Had to travel to Costa Rica for the week but was able to get my swim workouts in at a gym near to my hotel. Felt good in the water with the workout lenghts builing up.

Looking forward to next weekend's RR. Today felt good but I still feel a bit scared of the bike segment, I expect next weekend's ride to be good for the mental side of my preparation.

Have a good week and hope to meet you all in a few weeks!

  • Hi All,

We are staying at some condo close to race. Workouts are going well. Seems like the training is really picking up now.
I can't wait to meet you all!

    Good luck everyone.
