IMFL - 5 weeks... time to run [test]
hey, hope everyone had a great weekend... I'm still dealing with bike fit issues so my ride Sat was a fail (had to stop after 2.25 hours bc of knee pain) and my ride Sunday was probably a C- (watch went wacko so I didn't know if I was in zone), and then the pain came back... but I think I may have zeroed in on the culprit (new shoes with not perfect cleat position)... so I'll ride the current set up Saturday with my old road shoes to see what happens... hopefully the inflammation will die down so I'll have a decent idea if that's the problem. Fingers crossed bc we only have 2 more heavy riding weekends and I've been advised not to touch the fit after the RR because there won't be another long ride to test it out (makes sense)...

doing my best... Todd and I have been working on the fit - and I do think the seat height and position is okay... really hoping it's the shoes... because I'm doing the 80 mile option of a century ride Sunday and have Mon off work to ride I pushed my week back by a day and took yesterday off (I iced, ibuprofened, foam rolled and tiger balmed last night)... So, I don't have to get on the drainer until tomorrow... and then not back on the bike til Sun. I'm hoping this will give my knee/IT a chance to die down... I'll do the 4.5 hour interval ride [Sun] with my old road shoes... fingers crossed it will go well, which will mean we isolated the problem... assuming the knee holds up, the road shoes will be my race shoes! If there are still twinges I'll hang it up with Todd for the time being and take it to a LBS for a fit... I want to believe all the good stuff about Todd everyone is saying in da haus, but I have to be able to get this race done... 9 weeks on a new bike (jumping into looooong rides) before an IM was a crappy situation... but that's the hand I was dealt...
hope everyone else is having a good week so far.
I don't know about you, but the lower volume this week is a welcome break... I was starting to get a little nutty (and, I'm pretty sure a few of you were feeling the same way)... Pool tonight for me. Still working on finding my lost mojo, but knowing it's sort of active recovery and no impact on my knee helps! Gotta get it done!
Training has been going well. Weather is crappy this week so I keep moving my workouts for it. No need to ride in all day rain right now if I can help it. So long rides friday and Saturday. Concert on friday night though ( Roger Waters-The Wall) will make Saturday's ride challenging ; ) My run test will be tomorrow night at the high school track. Hopefully get a ride in today ( it's raining right now) and if not a run for sure. Both shoulders are hurting because of my swim yesterday so no swimming till sunday night !
Happy training everybody !
Nathalie
thanks, Nat... fingers crossed on the shoes being the culprit... if, after moving the cleats they still don't work and I have to get new shoes (again), so be it - but that can wait til after FL... hopefully I can sell the sidi's I just bought. But, for now, the old specialized road shoes are going on my tootsies!
Good luck with the weather and getting your training in! Hearing your shoulders hurt doesn't make me want to rush to the pool...
but I gotta get in there. Only swam once last week!
I just booked my spot with tri bike transport... gulp... oh, coupon code: TBT2010TC will save you $15 (there's a coupon thread in the clubhouse forum, I think)...
Going in for a bike fit today - changed my telework day. So, I'll do the drainer ride/brick afterwards - hopefully feeling better!
Because I am one day behind and I switched my telework day to today to do the bike fit, I think I have to bump my run test to sat morning so I can go to the location I want to run... and be able to do it in daylight. I am just hoping hoping hoping that this fit works and my Sun and Mon rides are glorious. I need the good bike mojo!
My guess is this area is pretty flat, won't matter much, Camp Flower road also appears to be gone....this is good last year it was a real POS bottle launcher.
79 southbound on the way back to town could have a pretty sweet tailwind by the early afternoon so it might actually be a little faster. I remember pushing a headwind going out.
Here is the old athlete guide you can check it out there, vs the new course on the website
