OS Week 4, 25 Oct

Hey everybody another week.

I did yesterday's run today as the childcare/family was better today!  going swimming during kid's practice here in a bit... their 2nd time so the packing is bad as for 2 kids plus me that is a lot of gear when you count snacks!!    I am still enjoying warm weather so ran in shorts!  and still have the A/C on....

what did you do??  m

  • I did yesterday's bike today. Didn't do the brick since it's raining outside....I'm a wimp. Did Core Fitness at lunch. Feeling sore. Hit my marks on the bike though.
  • I also did the run today. I had a friend join me for the run. The .5 miles were great, but rather than 2x1 mile at z4, it ended up being 1 mile at z5 and 1 mile at z11. :-) We'll see how bad I pay for it tomorrow. Ouch.
  • I got the run part in but not the bike. raining here.. and don't have the trainer (that tracy graciously lent me) set up yet. will pack the bike in the car in hopes of roads drying out, they were too wet yesterday too in my WoO, Window of Opportunity....
actually I got caught in the storm and somehow sick sick I like running when the winds are high and it is about to storm.. it feels sorta magical! and this morning's sky was gorgeous, red sky and twinkling lights in orange and purple on our pedestrian bridge that is 1 mile long!! so running across the Arkansas River the only one with winds coming across well it is way cool! yes way windy this morning... I got seriously drenched and with the winds my ponytail felt like cattails against my face! and my clothes plastered to me and shoes sopping wet as it came down so fast that the roads were not draining! hee... two other girlfriends and no kidding... way fun. 19mph wind gusts. 74 degrees and dropping. and Oh, stopped in at Mcdonalds wet, to pick up bfast for my bday son, 17 yrs. do you know how many people are in line for mcdonalds??? wow and you know nothing is hardly healthy on the menu!!! they were piling in.

  • Ouch - 2 x 12 @ Z4 was heavy going! Run at Z1 was hard to pace as once legs started turning over I wanted to open up! Legs burning now at my 'stand-up' desk!
  • Split w/o today ... EZ Run earlier today (went a little longer b/c its a 2-day) 30 min Zn 1 ... practically asleep. Heading to the velodrome after work for some pain in 250m circles. 2x12 on the wood should be a fun night. At least I'll get my money's worth out of the track bike this winter!
  • Back from week R&R  in Sedona, AZ, beautiful part of country, a recumbant bike in condo gym using HR not same as my trainer/ PM  or else just a bad morning: X2 on the bike ouch factor, couldn't hold watts beyond 10' on second interval, run was gimpy. Felt great after shower and an egg sanwich....

  • Survived he 2x12's this morning, then pounded out some strides uphill. Heavy legs afterwards!

  • Tuesday became Wednesday very quickly! Got the 2x12min on the bike and running strides in this morning. May get the run in tonight and I am caught up!

  • I think I've got the wrong plan, my bike is 2 x 15! Those longer intervals are really, really long. Still hitting numbers, so all is good.

As to running, I went to the doctor three weeks ago and got permission to start building up to running again. I did some power walking for the first two weeks. I felt really fast with those 15 minute miles image. Last week I tried a 12 minute mile on the treadmill. Felt good, even 12 hours later, so next up was a 12 minute mile and a 10 minute mile. All good, so next was 3 10 minute miles. Still good, so this week was a 5 mile run at a 10 minute pace. A couple hours post run I was sore. I think I've found my limit! Keep pushing though and I'll be speedy again in no time.
  • Great bike workout at the track last night ...

Did the intervals (2x12) in among the organized track stuff.  Felt pretty decent, so decided to stay for the so-called 'motor game'.  Basically, they put a modified scooter/motorbike on the track and it goes at a prescribed speed, usually increasing, for 40-80 laps or so.  First instance goal is to stay with the motor, second is to try to attack to gain a lap (or laps) on the motor .. and final goal, if possible is to compete in the sprint at the end.  This instance was 50 laps ... 15 @ ~22mph, 15 or so @ ~24 mph, 10 ;~26 and the last 10 (esp. the last 5) are nearly a free-for-all at 28+ winding up to a big bunch kick on the last lap.

I've finished with the motor group or within 5 laps of the end ... last night was the first time (in probably 20 attempts) that I was able to get a lap ... and get back in line and still hang onto the group when they wound it up ... The work on the bike surely seems to be working!!

Had pretty heavy legs for the run this AM ... but got it done.  2x1 @ LTHR and 45 min total duration.

Good job.  I did 2x1 @ Threshold Pace and then stopped.  Finally caught up to the plan, was a day behind the last week b/c of a half marathon at the end of week 2.  Can't wait to get through the bike tomorrow and rest Friday!

  • What's weird is that for the past three years I've been solely focused on long slow running this time of year (no bike no fast stuff) so I swear sometimes I lose track of what time of year it is with all this pain going on in October.
  • Felt great on my rollers this morning... did my 2x10' at 107% and 107% then 15' at 85%.
  • Treadmill and Trainer almost full time now. Too dark by the time I get home and too dark in the morning when I get up. 2x1 mile last night on the treadmill at 7:41 pace with a 1.0 gradient.
  •  2x10(3) were tough today, but I got them in. Now to pack for a 3 day kayak trip down the uWharrie River woot!

  • The "need to dos" are getting in the way of my "want to dos" this week. Missed a day of training, so collapsed the work this am as 2x12 min on trainer and 10 min in treadmill. That;s the way it goes sometimes.
  • k. getting caught up. I did 2 x 12' on that day we were supposed to... I guess Tues?? and got in ferocious winds. I have my power recorded in garmin data if anybody would like for me to email them my file for analysis???? smile. ironmarianne@gmail.com Rich is mailing me WKO and I will use son's Mac with Windows capabilities. I rode my mt bike yesterday afternoon and swam and ran a.m. WED I did 1 x 1 mile repeat in the morn, not the 2. okay so my left leg pains me and well I was pretty happy to have the one mile done. it takes quite a bit of warming up and all sorts of drills and very slow running... so at 2.5 miles into it I can hit it hard and if I dip too fast the left leg quad, butt and the whole thing hurts like the dickens. so I think I might have some progress as the mile avgd 8:30 which is correct for my VDOT. I rode the tri bike very easy later on WED cuz the weather was glorious. I have found a nice routine and it involves getting up early for a morning run and I change up the intensity. I race mt bike in costme on Sunday and doing a costumed run tomorrow... m
  • Flipped the weekend (ran yesterday and getting ready to bike today). Running is improving, but seem to be stuck in a rut cycling. I expect my VDOT will jump on the next test, but not feeling the surge yet on the bike.
