Official Ironman Florida Race Week Thread
TeamEN IMFL,
So...whatc'all doing in two weeks? :-)
The purpose of this email is to consolidate everything we have going on for you in one place. Note that we need you to do some things for US, but since you now likely have more time on your hands and are going nuts anyway...that shouldn't be a problem. Let's get started:
My Contact Info and Staying in the EN Loop:
Patrick McCrann
patrick@endurancenation.us

On Twitter: www.twitter.com/richstrauss
TeamEN: www.twitter.com/teamen
As I do stuff, go places during the weekend, I'll tweet it and push it into the twitter feed on the EN homepage. I plan to be at/near the race site all weekend, probably a few blocks off the beach at a Panera Bread. If you want to have lunch, or need someone to pat your belly, or slap some sense into you, I'm happy to help!

Getting You Plugged into Our Race Weekend Stuff
We do a number of things and create stuff on race weekend to plug you and your family into the race weekend experience. But to make that happen for you, we need some stuff from you:
- Race Weekend Tracking Speadsheet: please give us your info, especially your bib numbers, so we can make sure you are entered into our Race Day Tracking Speadsheet -- a top secret tool we've created that will be updated automagically with the entire team's splits on race day. Just point your family to it and they'll be able to track you on race day! Note, we'll get the link to you as soon as we go live with late next week.
- Give us your bio: we have a tradition of creating a blog post before every race that tells your fellow athletes, fans, and families a bit more about you. Please email admin@endurancenation.us with:
- Your name, city, age, and picture.
- How many IM's you've done and your PR, if you'd like to share that as well.
- Your goals for the race.
- Anything else you'd like us and your team to know about you.
- Deadline: Sunday, October 31, so I can get the blog post up first thing Monday, in time for you to see it and share it with your friends and family.
Race Execution Stuff
As you know, we have a ton of race execution resources in the Haus, to ensure that you become a Race Day Ninja just like your teammates! Here they are again:
- Ironman How-To -- MUST READ, this has the information and/or links to other stuff that you'll need
- Race 101 Seminar Series
- Four Keys eBook
Any questions? Please post here. Thanks!

Sweet Basils Menu detail --
Team - - Here are some more details about the selections for the team dinner. All of these include salad, bread and a soda or tea
Hopefully there should be something in there that works for everyone. Please finalize the number attending and menu selections no later than Monday night, 1 Nov as I am going to go by the restaurant on Tuesday and give them final numbers as well as our orders.
Hope everyone's taper is going well!
Mark
Mark - we will be at dinner on Thursday - I will bring cash - we would like one Grilled Chicken Primavera and one Grilled Chicken Pizza if you need to know that now.
Looking forward to seeing everyone soon.
Anybody wanna meet up for dinner on Wednesday night?
Bryan
Good luck packing and safe travels. I am going to start packing today too.
Does anyone have provisions for rain? what about cold?
We leave from Roanoke, Va to Panama City Tues - 12 hr drive.
Just watched Patricks last weekly video - bittersweet. He is so right. Race is not yet here and I am thinking what next.
See you all soon.

Staying at Boardwalk Condos from Tuesday to Monday
I'll be at the swim and the 4 keys. I'll stop by the restaurant to say hi, but I don't think it's a good idea for me to eat restaurant food before the race!
A little bio:
45 years old from Texas.
First IM.
Totally geeking out about all of this. Spent the last week in the chiropractors office. Back is way out of whack. My execution of the race will reflect this development!
This will be my 5th triathlon....ever; and no I don't come from an "athletic" background.
If I execute perfectly and my back cooperates you will see me in 14 hours....if not, have a few red bulls b/c it won't be till midnight!
Waaaayyyyy excited!
Can't wait to meet everyone!
Lynda Stewart
All packed up and ready.
Hey! Ho! Let's Go.
My cars loaded and were rolling out tomorrow morning!
Mark
Scott,
Im sure we can figure something out. -- The restaurant owner who I set this up with was very accommodating and Im sure they can do something simple for you that works.
We were just trying to simplify the process with a big group so it doesn't take a hour to get your food and another hour to settle the check.
Hope to see you there!
Mark
I will turn in a total number for the dinner as well as orders tomorrow afternoon. Please add to spreadsheet or post to this thread if you have not already done so.
Also, I plan to drive out the the intersection of Hwy 98 and 79 to ride that part of the course and maybe part of Hwy 20, probably around 9 am. If it's raining though I'll probably bag it and do a short run. If anyone is interested in going just let me know.
Looking forward to seeing you all at the dinner.
Mark
How the hell are we going to know each other at the swim?
I made it 4 hrs last night then stopped in SC.
We have about an 8 hour drive today.
Mark - thanks a bunch for arranging the dinner. I will be there with my wife, Liz. We will have the Grilled Chicken Primavera and the Vegetarian Eggplant Parmesan.
See everyone in the am for the swim!
Thanks !
Nathalie
Where is ART set up? Think swim is behind the Boardwalk.
Just got into town. Condo that I'm at seems nice. Now I gotta find the Walmart.
Edit: Walmart was literally 1/2 mile from where I'm staying.
Looks like the weather is still going to be crappy for swimming tomorrow morning. T-storms forecasted through 9 am.
Nathalie
you guys rock!
I hope everyone had the time of their lives and is safely back home. What a super time and what awesome support from the team and thank you coaches for all that you guys do.
Even though I didn't meet my race goal, I learned a great deal. I wanted to share some insightful thoughts;
EN training works! I am confident of that.
This race is painful. When does the pain come? I think it depends on your underlying fitness, race execution as well as your mental toughness. It will come and you need to be prepared to deal with it. The mental aspect of this race has got to be there to fight off the pain and push beyond where you have not gone in training. I didn't have that mental toughness. I had the answer to why I was racing but in my heart I think I didnt' feel it. The voice of walking was louder than the voice of keep running. I tried to correct it with gels, oranges but the drive to continue running was lost after mile 10. I trained with the thought that both my parents were going to be at the race supporting me but unfortunately they didn't show. I might have let this get to me more than I should have. I will work on developing that mental toughness and to know that out on that marathon course it is you and your body, no excuses.
I believe I executed correctly. I think my running fitness was not where I thought it was. I have been stuggling for three months with a piriformis muscle pain that manifested itself when I run faster than a 10 min mile. I did the workouts but instead of doing the zone 4 portions of the runs, I kept it at zone 2. I think this hurt me as well as somehow didn't give me the confidence I needed to run faster. Given this I think my goals were not exactly matched to my fitness. Another good lesson!
I am so happy that I swam fast and biked smart. The mile 18 line came at mile 10. OK, well I am still an Ironman x 2! I believe we can learn about how to train and race better with ever race effort. I will be back in Florida next year to break that 13 hour mark. I look forward to seeing my new EN friends again.
Everyone enjoy the rest and I will see you in the Off Season forums. A well deserved break in training. Enjoy!
RnP - sorry I chose the hot tub instead of the mello-mushroom. Again, you guys rock!
Dennis - walking or not, you finished and that's amazing! I'm sorry you didn't have the race you wanted or hoped for, but glad to read that your head seems to be in the right place now...
My experience wasn't without hiccups but I was so elated to be out there that I never really let it get me down - instead it fueled my elation. I didn't want to get a flat tire but I dealt with it...almost like an Ironman should have to deal with it. I'd never had GI issues before... and certainly didn't want them, but I somehow managed to get a reset and finish the run... and again, felt like that's just how it's supposed to go. Roll with the punches... In many races past I wasn't able to stay in my box when crazy stuff came up but for some reason Saturday it all just clicked and didn't bug me at all. I definitely have the team and all their great advice to thank for that.
Pics and RR to follow one of these days...
Do you also do the VA tri series through Setup events?
hey guys, literally... I hope the men who raced see this today (at least if you pre-ordered pics from ASI as today is the last day to add photos to our galleries). I saw 2 EN photos in the lost and found section and am not sure who they belong to... sorry I suspect I met you but I'm awful at names:
63701-012-021 (dark hair)
63701-117-033 (silver/blond, flashing EN sign out of the water)
