Doode, totally feel your pain. Team Kevtima has banned cake, cookies, soda, chips, and ice cream from the house. And Kevin started a new weight loss challenge between us. I gotta beat him at SOMETHING!

Does this bet involve a pink speedo? :-)
Nope, that thing promptly went to Goodwill after IMWI. Maybe a pink bikini for me...
Wow!! Congrats to everyone for running so well. Reading all of these week #1 test results makes me stoked and excited to go do some work - this is exactly why I decided to join EN. Hearing everyone's struggles and victories and being part of the community (team) is really gonna help me motivate myself to work that much harder and get that much better. Thanks for all the support, this rocks.
Test completed and feel very good about it. Due to ice on the roads I ran on the treadmill at the gym at 5:00AM this morning. I'm always amazed at how many people start the year off with good intentions (join gym, workout, lose weight, etc.) and within a week or two the gym is empty again...today it was packed! Anyhow on to the details.
Warmed up for 10 minutes to loosen everything up before getting down to business (ankle and foot still start out a little stiff since getting out of cast/boot a few weeks ago). Oh yes, this is my first test since breaking my foot prior to the Denver Marathon in October.
I started off a little easy and clicked off mile 1 in 7:33, picked it up a little for mile 2 in 7:24, and finished strong with the last 1.1 in 7:13 for a vDot of 44. Ironically, this was my starting point for last years OS. I made it up to 51 and I hope to do it again.

Howdy all. Tested this morning on my dreadmill (@ 0530). I went 23:51 for a VDot of 40. My totals were down a bit from the end of last year, but not too bad considering I am 6 weeks post IMAZ and haven't run a lot since. I am stil 8 points higher than this same time last year. Overall, I am feeling OK about my test. I have a lot of room for improvement, but I feel pretty good about getting the work done.
So the run test is in the books. Given my issues with coughing on the bike test I dialed it back a little even though I am feeling better but not great. It turned out to be a good idea as I'm not sure I could have held on much faster for a 30:25. This gives me a vdot of 30 to start.
I now have to edit my signature lines as I have slipped a little since November. It's upward from here with the vdot and FTP, down with the weight.
Run test a total fooking fail. At 1.78 miles I melted and just quit. Tried to regroup and try again at :20 slower per mile and lasted < a mile. Mentally jacked.
Discouraged, licking my wounds and pissed off.
Will look for a 5k race in the next couple of weeks and try it there so I am not doing it alone.
hey Stark, no worries, get the machine all fixed up and let'er rip in an open 5k. You'll tear it up, I'm pretty sure. There is nothing wrong with calling a "mulligan" for testing. Same for you Gordon, now you know where the work starts! Now the fun can REALLY begin!
Was leery going in with a cold the past 5 days, layoff since Nov 7th HIM and lack of preOS training. I was dissapointed and frustrated but I will not be discouraged. My goal was 24" or 7:41/mi. At 1.2 miles I knew it wasn't going to happen so I took a walk break, did another mile at the goal pace, a second walk break, then finished up the 5-K in 26:11 vDot 36. I thought about not testing and just taking the Vdot (40) from my first test following my layoff from IMSG last year, rather than retest that is what I will do. I will make sure that I don't push so hard to injure myself but I can't imagine training at the paces that my test today would suggest. I just need to shed this cold and the weight I put on during the layoff.
Thanks for all the support and encouragement from the JOS!
@John, last post you were fighting a cold, don't be discouraged - you will rest out great once you're feeling 100%!
Tough morning for me as well. Arrived at the packed local YMCA at 7am to use their indoor track (9 laps = 1 mile). Started off feeling pretty good but was sucking wind at about .5 miles into the run. Set a goal of running the first mile and walking 30 steps while getting a drink. Ran about half of the second mile and then did the 30-step walk and drink again. Mile 3 was painful and I started walking 10 steps every 2 laps. As I was walking my 10 steps with 2 laps to go, a lady of about 70 years old went cruising by me and that was enough motivation to get me to run the last 2 laps.
Total Time: 31:24 (8:59, 11:08, 11:17) VDOT: 27.9
While I have a long way to go, I'm really glad I have the EN team for accountability. I might have stopped early if I were working my own training plan.
That actually felt pretty nice. A BIG 46 vdot........... Mile 1: 7:00 Mile 2: 6:48 Mile 3: 6:45 +: 0:42 Consistent to where I have been for last few month. I was very happy I could build into the run. It's now OS task to bump that up. Great running everyone!
Clearly need some help with the pacing. I was hoping for something closer to 18, but all the more reason to crush all of the workouts between now and the next test (which I have no idea when it is and don't want to know!).
Hey gang. Raced a hilly 5k two weeks ago in 17:48. Ran 3.1mi on treadmill @ 1.5% in 17:20 last week. Will start w/ a VDOT of 57 and, like everyone else, aim up. Best of luck to all!
I am now officially off the cake. I have to lose weight.
uh oh....is this a household diet???
in other news...I did a treadmill 5k last week. vdot = 38. Oof. down 4 points from last year. can only go up! or sink further into those couch cushions...
wow, we have some wicked fast folks in this group! AWESOME!
I did my test today - 8:17/8:19/8:09/0:46 for 25:31; vdot of 37.3 (looks like i've got some company - Chap and Greg P... we'll have to do some wagering for the next tests!) My vDot is down from my high of 39 last year (but better than my first 2 tests last OS). I did have to stop for 30" or so in the middle of my last mile to peel off a layer, I made a turn and the headwind disappeared and I got warm fast... tried to gut it out but it was uncomfortable.
I was really worried about the test for lots of reasons - my weight is up and my head is in a bad place(going through a breakup) not to mention running a 5k solo without a pacer is hard (the ex BF paced me a few tests last year, which was a huge help)... but I talked to myself a lot (which is standard) to keep moving... all in all my only real goal was to be faster than my first test last OS... What's really interesting was looking at my old tests and weigh ins, my time today was pretty darn close to my time at this weight last year (for my second OS test)... I beat that time by a hair... but here's to dropping more weight and building more FAST!
@ Becky, nice job and way to gut throuh it! Just think how well you will do after some JOS haus of pain and no more thoughts of the BF...........keep your chin up and workin hard, it will all pay off. Congrats! Cheers, Greg

Kitima- what about the Ice Cream Time trial? That is coming up soon I think
@ ;Becky: You go girl! I think the EN Haus needs to make a scale that adds empathy points. Offhand I'm thinking at least two for a breakup and one for body comp headgames. So... that would bring your vDot to 40, FWIW. Nice job getting out there... sometimes that's 90% of the battle.
Got an abbreviated test done but it's a place to start. First time testing at the local gym on a treadmill. The place was way too hot and humid!!! It's about what I expected after being lazy for the last month...only place to go is up from here.
Epic fail on my test. Started out too hot and cooked myself. I posted here about it since I need some guidance on what vdot to use. Actually I already got some great input so thanks team. Better luck next time...
i am getting jealous and worried reading all of these posts, i am way behind this week, skied moguls hard with the spring conditions we had in vermont this weekend. as friend commented "i never thought you could ski moguls that well" my response was "neither did I..." guess it was all the training this year. redoing the bike test tomorrow, then giving the run test a shot on friday unless anyone thinks i should hold off until saturday and give it a day between bike & run...
Totally off topic. My question is: how do I get notifications for Jan OS postings. The check box up top for me has a black, not blue background, but does have a check in it that im subscribed. I can read, post, and start new threads here, and Im a member of the Jan OS group. But I'm not receiving email notifications of new postings to this forums threads, unlike the scores of other notifications I get every day. I'm feeling frozen out here. Help?
Sorry to be off topic, but I can't start a new thread from my iPad.

@Allen: Nice work! I feel the same. . .w/o the team I wouldn't push so hard. Accountability is good!
@David: Great run! Looks like I've got some work to do to hold up my end on the IMAZ young guns team!
@Fred: Crushed it! One of my favorite races is the Long Beach Sprint -- I love the bike course!
Best of luck to all!

Fred, Awesome work......its early in the JOS Haus........you' ll be there in no time. Congrats, Greg
@ Allen, Awesome perseverence! Stick to it and you will be passing the younger bucks! Stay strong, Greg.

I'll be joining y'all in a few weeks. Reading all this...I know I'm inspired, also a lot scared! NICE WORK everyone!
Leigh--no sinking, and eat cake always.

Way to get it done all, and that also includes Starkman and Matt A. You tried, you did not fail. You will be back. No biggie.
Becky, shouldn't you be running angry in the midst of a breakup?
Try to channel all the bad stuff into pos vibes during your workouts.
Linda, don't be tempted. We need you in vdot cheerleading mode right now so you can build it back up.
Dave B, I can't even imagine a tmill test. Kudos.
Leigh, now the Boyle household has two vdot sandbaggers.
Fred, you're fast! Well done.
Mike L vs Greg for Jan OS vdot race to 60.
Allen, I loved the story on not getting beat by the 'more advanced in age' runner.
David A. Nice work, now do a 2x20' on your bike! You're in SoCal for the love of ...!
Geoff, you were smart to test. Now you have a starting point to measure all your future success.
Aarron, Great job considering you just got out of a boot!
Pete G, great run!
Tracy, you tested right? Must have been when I was lurking in the ladeeyz lounge. What a rough year you had in 2010, onward and upward in 2011!
Bill W, if I wasn't nursing an injury, I'd make a friendly wager w/ you.
If I missed anyone, I apologize. Just want to give props. We'll have a fun time.
Dave
