IM LOU 2011 Here I Come!
It looks like we will have a sizable EN team at Louisville this year to do battle with the heat and humidity. The coaches will get specific groups in place for these key races, but unit the Ironman Louisville 2011 group events, I suggest we use this thread in the 2010 group to see who is racing, share course Q&A’s and talk smack to stay motivated. I will watch the thread and update the list of names below with those that are racing, volunteering or a spectator.

I'm in for IM Louisville too! Can't wait!
@Lori, I added you to the list in the first post.
I'm in for my 2nd go!
Hey Bill, good to see another "Northeasterner" on board! In terms of training, it will be better for us if we have a hot summer up here as we did last year. You could pretty much fry an egg on the sidewalk during the run last year. Definitely doable, just need to be prepared.
Thanks Matt for kicking this off.
I'll take August heat over this ridiculous cold and snow. I don't live in Virginia Beach for the white stuff.
Matt - That is great info!! You have a lot of time on your hands?
I'll be at IMLou and so will Evan Odim... 2 NJ guys representing the Northeast on that nice cool day in August!
Im in....3rd time....My goal is to stay "near" Matt S...on the course this year....Im aging up to 50-54 this year! Last year Matt was just too strong!
Can't wait to get this party started!!!
Hey Aimee, this year you can save ME a place in the swim line! LOL! I hope it isn't the same situation as last year! Otherwise, time to break out the inflatable mattress!
I was wondering where you were Barb! Glad you will be there!!
Ugh! The swim line! Yes, we will have to work out a strategy..
Hey guys! Local Louisvillian and 2X IMLOU finisher. Racing Canada this year instead of Lou but happy to help answer any questions etc. We have a local guy from Lexington who has a group on the Iamtri site. He puts on supported group rides/runs/swims on the IMLOU course. Here's the current schedule. Check the Iamtri- Ironman Louisville 2011 group (good size group this year) for more details:
We are once again sponsoring 6 group rides of the IMKY bike course
this spring/summer. These are all Saturday rides leaving from the
Yellow Lot (unless construction of the boathouse moves us to another
lot on River Road. Rides will leave at 9am with the later rides (June
11th and later) incorporating an 8-9am Ohio River swim (behind Towhead
Island).
Full SAG support will be provided for those doing the 80 mile and 112
mile options. SAG donation is $10/rider and includes plenty of fluids,
fruit, ice, energy bars with excess proceeds going to charity.
More information will be posted on http://www.facebook.com/l/fd130-IfQ...iamtri.com
(Find the IMKY group page) and I'll also try to provide some periodic
updates on this page. You don't have to be doing Ironman Louisville to
join these rides, but you'll meet folks from all over the country
coming in to see and "feel" the rolling hills of Oldham and Jefferson
Counties.
THE 2011 DATES
Saturday, April 23
Saturday, May 21
Saturday, June 11 (likely preceeded by swim, water temp dependent)
Saturday, July 9 (8-9am swim)
Saturday, July 23 (8-9am swim)
Saturday, August 6 (8-9am swim)
If you have questions just post a note or hit my personal page.

I would like to hear more about the swim line from people who have done the race. It it really two hours of standing in line prior to the swim?
Depends on how close to the front you are/want to be. I've probably waited average of 45 mins or so the years I've done it.
That being said, personally don't have people stand in line or save places. Really think WTC will have to change the line up so that doesn't get out of hand. The line moves very quickly once the race starts and they do an excellent job of getting folks in. Normally takes around 35 mins to get all in the water. Considering 2700 athletes- not too shabby! It's usually the poorer swimmers that feel they have to get there super early for place in line. The cutoff time starts when last person goes in water so IMLOU allows more time to complete swim than other IM races.
I did it in 2008. I got up early, got to the bike zone to do final prep shortly after it opened, and then walked up to the swim start. I was probably 2/3 back from the start. I don't think it really matters where you start as far as the swim goes unless you're worried about hitting cutoffs. The TT start pretty much ensures you won't have much traffic in the water. If you are worried about cutoffs, then figure out how to get to the front as that buys you some extra time. Otherwise the only issue is how much traffic you'll be negotiating on the bike. If I had it to do over again, I would get everything ready to go the day before, sleep late, and wander up to the start around 7:00 a.m. I'd start in the back, but I'd have 2-3 more hours of sleep.
I saw Matt's post on the dashboard, so thought I should sign in ..... IM Lou will be my first.
Brian - Welcome!! You will be with a great group for your first IM.
I LOVE that the list is growing!!
We are under 200 days!! 198 to be exact! How's everybody doing?
