OS Weeks to Come ...

For a handful of reasons - most specifically related to doing a half-marathon on Feb 6, I took the good advice of the coaches and hopped from Wk 14 to 17, so that I would finish up the OS timely with the running race.  Sounded like a great idea at the time ... and I'm sure it will be in the end.

But, this is one of those things where it is a lot less fun in the moment.

These later weeks are tough!

90 min run Sunday ... followed by a tough Tue (3x15) bike+45 min brick run -- a 2 hr workout total ... followed by a Wed run (3x1; 2x1/2) that amounts to over 7 miles in 'around' an hour.  Yeesh!  I need a nap.

I know it's supposed to be tough, but this is the first time I've actually felt hammered by the work so far.  I guess I should be happy to have made it this long, that or I've been slacking the past 4 months.

Have a fun week !

  • Because of an early May HIM (A race), I also jumped ahead in the OS but I did it from the start, in other words I started at about week 4 or 5 , can't remember. So I am in Week 18 right now and you are so right, the last two weeks have been brutal. I'm still not sure what "phase" this is (VO2?) because one bike workout has 2x20@FTP and then the next will have 5x2.5s. Either way, I am definitely in the best shape of my life but paying the price as I limp around my office. Week 20 can't come soon enough!

  • I have nothing to back this up except from experience, but it seems this is a prime week to have some burnout creep into the picture. We've survived Threshhold #1 and then the VO2 pain, now we're back to the longer intervals. But I say this is the time to bring it all home and get serious! They may look like the same workouts that we did earlier, but we're not the same athletes, so they are different. We can go faster, push harder, and in many cases run faster than we ever have. So, I'm fighting any sense of burnout with the facts of how much I've achieved so far, and what more is to come as we crush Threshhold #2.

Good Luck all in the last few weeks!!!!!
  • Agree with what you guys have said so far.  These weeks are no joke!  My season is somewhat different that most EN-ers in that after the OS I have a week of TRANS, then a 12 week build to an Olympic, and then after that a 12 week to a HIM.

I feel like I'll be able to do an Olympic today, let alone after the rest of the OS and another 12 weeks!! (swimming aside, of course )

    Good luck everyone!

  • Note to self: DO NOT, DO NOT, repeat DO NOT stack workouts.

I know this is the EN Mantra, but b/c of a work trip to the frozen Northeast, I had to move Tue bike (wk 18) into today. Stacking Sat ride/brick (2 hrs - 40 mi outside , w/ EN intervals and 1900 ft of climbing), Sunday run (10ish miles w/ repeats), and Tues bike (2x20)+run into 3 successive days has me VERY glad tomorrow will be forced day off.

Now if I could just find my legs ... they seem to have been lost somewhere image Hopefully, I'll be able to stand up after the 6 hr flight tomorrow ...

    Have a good week all!
