JOS Week 3 Maintenance/Recovery Day Thread

Yeah for rest days!  OK, my plan today was to get up, swim (drills) and then do a little maintenance/core stuff.  Well because the local swim team is in the lanes from 6-7, that means I have to swim from 5-6, and when that alarm went off at 4:30 I decided I needed sleep a heck of a lot more than I needed to do those swim drills  I got up at 7 and did my sun salutations and core work instead.

Everyone else resting up today?

Comments

  • Yes resting up, will do some stretching later on. And lots of cooking as I have day off

  • I am just going to chill and relax and maybye play some Call of Duty Black Ops baby!!
  • School holiday today so my boy and I are gonna finish up his Pinewood Derby car, gonna cuddle with my foam roller and Trigger Point stuff for awhile.  May go swim just to stretch out the body a bit more.  No drills, etc.  Just slow and easy.

  • With the holiday I'm off today as well. So I will be running errands around town and then getting in some quality stretching tonight. Enjoy the day everyone!
  • Universal Studios......eat, drink, thrill rides
  • No bike or running today but have been thinking of working my upper body on the days off for the OS Plan. I'm wondering how much this would impact my recovery on the off days. Has anyone else done this and did it impact your recovery?
  • Well, after spending a hard hour yesterday trying to focus on my running form... I'M SORE!

Anyone have some tips on loosening up some tight hip flexors?
  • Tom- go to Leigh's site and check the body parts stuff. She's got some great videos and posts about stretching out and working the hip flexors (amoungst other things too).

  • rest day for me! legs be cooked from ski/bike + ski/run Sat + Sun. most I've done in a long time and felt good to be back at it. image

will do some core work whilst watching TV tonight.

  • @ Leigh - just watched your video on massaging calf muscles - good stuff.  <span class="afEmot" onclick="amaf_insertHTML('<img src=\'/DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default/emoticons/smile.gif\' />')" unselectable="on" style="width: 20px; height: 20px; cursor: hand"><img title="<img src='/DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default/emoticons/smile.gif' align="absmiddle" border="0" />" onmousedown="return false;" src="/DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default/emoticons/smile.gif" width="20" height="20" alt="" /></span><br />
My right calf still sore from initial bike test.  Think I put too much pressure on right pedal (plus that leg is shorter).

I added some lifts to left shoe and that seems to make up for leg difference.

    Feel it mostly after running......

Glad today is a rest day....

  • Can't talk.  Napping.

  • After dealing with a cold most of the weekend I decided it was time get back in the pool. I managed to cover 600 yards in about 1/2 hour. I have nothing to measure this against ti know if it was good or bad, but I felt like I was going to die. Looking forward to a normal week, i.e. at home office, and getting in some solid sessions.
  • Nice to hear you are feeling better Peter.
  • online yoga for 30 minutes with Clara...'Just One Dance' Vinyasa flow

  • @Nemo, thanks for the link! Looks like I should give a shout out to Leigh too...
  • My wife was watching a quirky Australian claymation video, "Mary and Max" from Netflix this afternoon. I was too restless to watch the whole thing, but it was oddly compelling. About a man in in NYC with Asperger's who was pen pals with a lonely, chubby girl in Australia. Warm human and funny from the parts I saw.

@ Allen - I am doing just that in the OS: Mon and Fri I head to the Gig Harbor Athletic Club to work mainly my upper body, trying to regain strength I lost in by bike accident in Sept. so I don't totally embarass myself when I swim. I also sneak in 3 lower extremity exercises 'cause I think they help keep my glutes, quads and hamstrings from getting injured at my age. I've been lifting weight regularly since I was 16 (never gained any bulk from it, though), so my experience may not apply to someone just starting to lift in conjunction with tri training, but I haven't seen any impact on leg soreness or tiredness during the OS workouts this year or last. My routine takes 30 minutes. I also do another 30 minute set with dumbells at home on Tues, Thurs and Sun, arms only (not even chest or shoulders), again to help with issues from my bike accident.

  • I definitely enjoyed the rest day even though I was working (so much for a National holiday?!). Legs are as sore as they've been in a long time. I'm pretty sure it's from the 70mi ride on Sat and 8mi run on Sun (was going to do 14, but wasn't feeling the mojo), but also might have to do with painting the outside of the house for 4hrs yesterday! Hope everyone has an awesome week!
  • @ Al - Thanks, I think I'll give it a shot and see how I feel after a few weeks.
  • I had an epic rest day...I didn't even log onto EN, and at work, shhhh.....I gooffed off!
