  • @Jenn - 3:30 on a trainer! You get some super-duper award for that. That's building mental toughness.

    @Matt - just one word...SOLID

@Greg - Glad you got to meet of few folks. As you know, I was about 80miles north on PCH enjoying great weather also. You gotta keep that Starkman in sight. He's sneaky fast. Good job tagging onto his wheel and pushing it.
  • What am I more jealous of.... Jenn riding 3:30 on the trainer or the guys on the PCH??? OK- either way I feel like I didn't do a whole lot, I just did the workout as written. The run portion was mentally tough. I am just never going to adjust to running on a TM with the time staring me in the face (even if I put a towel over it).

During the 2nd FTP interval, I heard a loud "pop". I thought it sounded like the tire, but the watts didn't drop. Turns out I did the rest on a steadily flattening tire. Only my second ever flat on a trainer.
  • Stark- thanks so much for the pics! Sounds like a really fun ride. Jenn, Holy Crap! 3:30 on the trainer- shoot me!

I did the workout as written (minus the run- still not running here). It's amazing how quickly those "1 hour" rides start to look a whole lot more like 1:30 :-)
  • @Jenn - Wow, 3:30 on a trainer is freakin' impressive! That does wonders for the mental 6-pack!

@Everyone else (i.e. those SoCal folks) - looks like a great time. I'm hoping to get some of the CO peeps together this summer for a ride.

@Michele - Flat on a trainer??? Bummer! However, great job finishing the interval, that is pretty cool.
  • Riding. Outside. Does. Not. Compute.

Seriously, take a look at the mounds in our yard. The lamp post has been my yard stick.

Anywho, 3 x10, all at 100% and 2 x 15 at 85%. Bored, and glad to be done by the end. But I felt fine and it went well. 10' sure felt short.

  • Well better late than never - had to work today so didn't get to bike till 7pm - but got it in.  1:26 in total.  (3X10s intervals  = 1.08, 1.07, 1.07 - 2x15s = .87 & .90).   Instead of running in dark on black ice, went down to basement and did 3 sets of 5" w/the jump rope..hadn't done that in awhile, but its always a good sweat builder.....

Sounds like alot of fun was had out west and alot of good work got done today!

@ Linda - wow and I thought we had alot of snow hear in NJ/NY.  But your use to it ..right?

Now everyone get their run in tomorrow before the big game......image

  • Very jealous of all of you who got to ride outside. It's been raining for a couple days straight here, though that's a relatively minor inconvenience compared to snowmageddon up north. Hopped on the rollers at 6 am, 15' wu, 3 x 10 at 1.014, 1.036, 1.081. 2 x 15' at .894 and .91. Made a concerted effort to build on each interval and within the intervals themselves, sort of a negative split practice session. Silly games like that help keep me focused. Else the mind ends up wandering with some rather frightening side effects on the rollers. Total ride was 1:30 at .932. Bailed on the brick so I could make pancakes for the boys and never got a chance to recoup the run. No complaints, while I had planned to take yesterday's workout easy, that was wishful thinking. Went a little hard with squats, jumps, etc. Legs felt good before today's ride but I'm feeling it now. We'll see how tomorrow's run goes. Looks like the weather will clear up overnight and I may get to pound the pavement instead of the 'mill.
  • @ Jenn - love the chart! It's neat to see a chart based on the power. 3:30 is kick ass!

@ John - nice pics. The new EN kit on coach looks cool.

I went to pickup my new bike tonight but they ran out of time assembling it before closing. Will have to go back in on Monday to get it fitted and bring it home. Just in time to setup on the trainer in my pain cave for the Tuesday bike workout. Will post pictures of my new pain cave (hopefully on Tuesday).
  • Well, after a good bike wko on Tues, my week was hijacked with more snow removal and home maintenance as water found its way in due to ice dams.  The good news is I shed a few pounds with all the steady state roof shoveling.

I finally got around to Thurs bike wko on Sat, but I didn't have a lot of time so I cranked out 2x12' 312, 308, then a 6' 316, and a 1' 378, then off after 45' to go to my son's b-ball game.  Now it's off to do the sat wko.

  • @ LP, Halligan,

Down here in sunny Va, happily not having that winter again. Hope you get a thaw soon.
  •  Thanks, CM.  A nice, slow gradual melt would be nice.  We got rain last night w/ thunder and lightning.  When did the Mayan calendar predict the end of the world?

Just finished my best bike wko of the OS.  It was the first time I felt strong from start to finish.  My legs were not happy for the first 2' of getting started, but once I settled in, I was good to go.

    2x15' 313, 316

1x5' 334 (I took a page from last year when we were doing these at 110%)

    2x15' 246, 260.

90' total, longest ride of the OS.

  • DH: after all that shoveling, strong workout!

Dave I'm happy I don't know what "ice dams" are.  I envision a little beaver wreaking havoc with the integrity of the roof in some sinister way a la Happy Gilmore. Virtual high five for getting your workout done on what must have been a long whythehelldidwebuyahouseinthefirstplace kind of day!
  •  I am reporting today, I had to switch the bike/run days. No run for me after bike today either, however bike executed as directed and they are bad with their math for sure. I did my 75min bike in 96min, they were off by a little. Just joking, they know it too.

    96min, AP 232W xP 242W, IF.92, TSS 137.33, 2x15min(4min)+1x5min(4min)@FTP+2x15min(2min)85%FTP

    interval 1   AP 277W  xP276W IF 1.05 HR 149 cad 99

    interval 2  AP 279W  xP277W  IF 1.05 HR 153 cad 100

    interval 3  AP 282W  xP275W  IF 1.05 HR 151 cad 100

    interval 4  AP 235W xP234W  IF  .89   HR 141 cad 100

    interval 5  AP 235W xP234W  IF  .89  HR 139  cad 100

Legs tired from running yesterday, but firing on all cylinders. I did swim this morning too, hard one too. Nice to close the week like this.

    Have a good night folks.

  • @Aleksandar -- "mr consistency" on the intervals!!
  •  @Matt, thanks. I think we both wear that title. Love reading your data.
