We'll be making all the groups "perennials" in the next few days. That way if you did TOC in 2008 or are doing it in 2011 you can still "fit in" as long as you want to play in that group....
I am starting to prepare my bike for shipping to Coach R's house. I assume I will want my PowerTap with me for the week. I plan on using shipbikes.com and according to them it can take 1-5 business days. So that means I have to have it in the mail by May 3-4. However, I just realized that on May 7, I will be riding my first RR, which I will definitely want the PT for as well.
So, how hard is it to travel with a wheel? I am sure I don't want to check it, but can't imagine that it will fit very well in the overhead compartment or under my set.
Since you all are pretty avid Facebook folks, I would love to set-up a Work Works Facebook group for TOC and have you guys bang hard on it so to help me test it out (plus I think it would be cool to follow you guys). You guys and gals can post on-the-fly pics and updates throughout the day via your mobile phones. Maybe call it "TOC 2011" and invite the almost 170 EN folks who are Friends of Work Work to join the Group and follow you and interact during your adventure.
I know this isn't really a race director deal, but would love to have your help.
I think this is a good idea. Do you want to create a separate group or do we just wan to use the Work Works Group? Coach R also plans on using a Beluga Pod for daily communication between the team. So we should get a good feel for how both of the team communication tools work.
Thanks. I will create a "ToC 2011 Group" on the Work Works FB page I have and will add you and Nemo to start.
Also, and don't want to detract from the group with this, but I am having issues with Beluga from an admin prespective (too many to name). It appears that Beluga support (and everything in general) has been abandoned since the Facebook acquisition. So I think after CdA we are going to move to GroupMe. I would ask that Coach R. set you guys up on that as well.
I saw a friend today who did some skiing at Squaw Valley in North Lake Tahoe (where Stage 1 ends, I think) this past weekend and he said it was close to 60 degrees and the roads were clear. There is a ton of snow in the mountains, but shouldn't interfere with your riding. Gonna be absolutely goreous up there for you guys! Jealous.
Who's bringing the streaming video camera? Also, does anyone recall what software Mike Hedman used last year to "draw" the EN when he was running? I was going to see if we could hook something like that up so that people could follow us throughout the week.
Mines Rd ain't no false flat. That's pretty funny . It's a 20-22 mile climb.
First I've heard that they're not doing the stage down the coast. I guess this inland stage is a workaround, given the washout on 101...hmmm....Carmel Vally is awesome but that ride to King City sucks. And Interlake road, that they mention, is the Wildflower course, the will ride the opposite way for about 20+ miles of the course, including a very solid climb which you descend on the WF course.
But I wants to do Naciemento Furgeson Rd and the coast, damnit. Hmmm...maybe I'll have us stay in King City vs Seaside. Drive to the gates of Hunter Ligget, ride to the coast, north a bit, flip it, climb back over the range and descend to the vans. Still an awesome ride. I'll have to think about this one...
Joanne scoured the CalTrans website yesterday and found that PCH is open but with traffic controlled at the construction point. I imagine the Tour rerouted because CalTrans can handle a handful of cars at a time, but not a 2 dozen CHP vehicles, 175 cyclicsts, team cars, etc. So, our ride down the coast is still ON and we'll likely drive down the coast to Big Sur, start from there, ride south to NF Road and climb over the coastal range, descending through Ft Hunter Ligget to Jolon Rd. One of the best rides in California :-)
Yep...trust me, I want to do this ride too :-) I'll map it out. Weather, or rather fog on the coast, is the big factor. It's actually better if we leave later and since we're not on the tour route we actually have all day to get this done. This kinda ride is becoming a staple of the EN ToC: we do the smart guy thing to pick a route off away from the Tour that showcases some of the riding we have in Cali, then take our time doing it. Last year we rode, climbed through Sequoia National Forest...awesome day.
