How Big of a hole did you dig for yourself?
Hey gang! Great week of riding. Started looking at my numbers to see how big of a hole I put myself in.
- Monday (5/16): 4:30 hrs, 3950 ft, 373 TSS, .911 IF, NP 189
- Tuesday (5/17): 3:45 hrs, 1800 ft, 252 TSS, .83 IF, NP 172
- Wednesday (5/18): 6:25 hrs, 7500 ft, 159 TSS, .83 IF, NP 172 -- Lost PT during the majority of ride
- Thursday (5/19) : 6 hours, 7600 ft, 433 TSS, .85 IF, NP 178 -- Lost Garmin for last 10 miles
- Friday (5/20): 1:30 hours, 1400 ft, 157 TSS, 1.03 IF, NP 214
- Saturday (5/12): 3:30 hours, 5500 ft, 282 TSS, .91 IF, NP 189
So I currentlty have a CTL of 80.6 and a TSB of -90.6. I think that is a pretty deep hole!

I downloaded the data last night and came in at approx -80 TSB and that doesn't include the Solvang ride where I rode without the Joule. Totally took yesterday off and will take today off as well. Might swim tomorrow- the ocean is actually looking pretty friendly. My hips hurt- every trip up the stairs is a reminder of the work we did last week.
PS- Peter, IF=1.03 for 1:30 on Stage 6 and .9 IF for 3:30 on Stage 7? Dude, you are seriously due for an uptick in the FTP.
love to hear about the Solvang ride. Wasn't that where they let you ride the TT course before the pros? If so, did you try and TT it or just ride it. IF TT, how did you stack up against the pros????
Not that it at all diminishes your guys accomplishment, but I'd agree with Nemo that it sounds like you are def. due for a pretty decent FTP bump. -90 TSB and some of the TSS should basically leave you unable to stand if the thresholds were 100% dialed in. That's pretty much the same with my TSB from last week, soon as I hit my scheduled test and bumped my thresholds the numbers started coming back in line... BUT you guys are still beasts for getting all of those crazy rides in, major kudos.
Peter, seriously due for a big bump in FTP as you were riding strong and seemed to continue to ride stronger as the week progressed. Can't wait to see what you do in CDA.
I'll admit my FTP not totally dialed in with the powertap and outdoors on the road bike as I haven't done an outdoor test and my numbers were all based on the Computrainer. Call my TSB -71, Call it -50. Bottom line the legs were, and are, like marshmallows, puffy feeling, tired, lacking snap. Loved and loving every minute of it and patiently waiting for the recovery so that I can take the bump in fitness out for a spin in my HIM in 4 weeks.
Yes and NOOOOOOOOO! Yes- we rode the TT course before the pros. Beautiful course with a few evil little hills mixed in (and one downhill turn where I really wouldn't want to be TTing on my TT bike).
But HELL NO! I did not go out a TT effort! In fact, the goal and agreement Michele and I had for that ride was "don't break a sweat". It was absolutely a much needed recovery day for me just before the big final day. I don't know how the Pro's go from an all out TT effort on one day to Mt Baldy the next. Insane!
Ruh roh! No bueno! I just ordered a new PM, Quarq w/ Joule because I'm afraid of this exact same thing!
I absolutely got stronger as the week went on. My TT with Marc up GMR was my best of the season (2:30 faster than a nearly-TT effort with Sawiris the week before the Tour), and I was throwing up some big numbers on Sunday as well.
No mojo this morning, however. That is, my first repeat was pretty decent, better than the week before the Tour, but Rich kept me waiting at the shitter at the top for about 5' before I went down...waited some more, started to go up again, wasn't into it and flipped it. Just sent him a text to see if he's still up there...
Big week, weekend coming up for me and I've hooked up a 7-10 day camp in June Lake, CA for July 4th weekend and the following week. I'll likely do another similar 7-10 day camp, ending 3-4wks before IMWI. I was encouraged by the fitness bump I feel I got and want to repeat that a couple times before the race.
I felt, and looked, like I definitely lost some weight but the scale says otherwise. Sigh...
LoseIt says I'll be at 152lb by July 30, a full 5-6wks ahead of IMWI. Might be able to chip away at that to see 149lb.
Need to stop eating like I'm riding 3-6h a day or else that's quickly going back on. Just wish I had lost it before going out there and dragging it up all those KOM's.
Just wait till next year when I'm going to swallow a tapeworm and show up at 110 pounds....GMR will be mine!
You all are going to hate me but I lost 5 pounds. I probably gained a couple of them back over the past few days with nothing to do but eat. Back at it today so hopefully that will curtail the uncontrollable eating
.
Got on the scale today at 164.3lb, 2lb less than yesterday. I think my body is/was adjusting glycogen or whatever. 500cals under budget in LoseIt last night (set to lose 1.5lb per week) and went to bed full.
I've lost 2 pounds and hope to continue that trend. Hilly mtb races on the horizon so I need to have less of a carcass to haul up those climbs.
@Scott: Big bummer about the Ergomo. I think the computer just needs a change of battery. Though I'm so very attached to Ergomo, I'm going to get a new bottom bracket for the road bike and put the Quarq from the tri bike on it. *sniff!*
Indeed. I've done Sierra Rd, Naciemento-Furgesson, GMR, Mt. Baldy, etc all in various conbinations of fitness and fatness. Fit and light is MUCH more enjoyable
