Thursday Long Run 6/2 - 6 weeks til taper

Perfect morning for a long run here.  Met up with my buddy Kevin [he is a training plan guy this year but was full  on EN last year] at 4:50 am, way to freakin early.  Knocked out a little more than 20 miles in 2:32.

Brings me back to what I was thinking a few years ago following the EN plan [back when I used to actually follow the plan ]....Of course you do not need to run longer than 2:30 when you run freaking fast the whole time and end up running 20 miles!

Getting right down to it now.  Its hog boiling time for sure!  Have the fun in LP next weekend, a week to run long, racing tupper lake, one more long run and then taperville...

  • Chris,,,,you run too fast...just kidding..great job..This morning I was remembering a time long ago when I would start out on a long run with FRESH legs...Now its like starting an old beat up car...

I did 12.22 miles in 1:47 this morning...

What is Hog boiling? and should I be doing that too? image
  • First decent day to run here in VA in about a week. First time in a week I have not walked out the door and been dripping wet inside of 2 minutes. 530 am run nice out, relatively low humidity only 60%, 2 hours 13.75 miles. Looking forward to getting up to Lake Placid next weekend but not psyched for the drive. Oh well, sacrifices.

  • Got in the 120 minutes in 90+ temps last evening. I've really been struggling with piriformis/hamstring issues on the right hip, so was apprehensive about how this run would go. I managed to hit the target paces and really felt pretty good. I think the big bike week really boosted my fitness level. Only got in 12 miles, but walked all the recoveries to protect the hip.

  • really not sure what "hog boilin time" means but  from context it is pretty obvoius "its hog boilin time son, best git your shit together" it means it is GO TIME!

I am excited for next week as well.  Should be fun.

  • I did mine at 5:00 a.m. too! Drilled the z3 intervals, and did 23 ish minutes of the z2 intervals, but was slowing down a lot and just didnt have it for the last 7. Whoever decided doing 4 miles at 7:15 would be a reasonable way to finish up a 2:10 run needs to get dipped in a hog boilin' trough! I ended up with 16.4 in 2:10, for a 7:58 average on the day.
  • 5:00am....I'm still not able to function that early in the morning!

Have some kids, it will cure you of that

  • Very tough long run today during lunch. It's in the low 90's here in Boston and humidity is through the roof. Covered 14 miles in 135 minutes at the LRP++. Carried as much water as i could, but it really wasnt enough to get me through the entire run. Last two miles were pretty ugly.

  • We had great weather in Minneapolis. I have never been one to fuel during the long runs (I know, I know...). I've been fading on the z2 intervals at the end, though, so I stopped by the new tri store 3 blocks from my house and picked up some espresso Gu. Ate one after the z3 intervals and another before the z2 intervals. It was an absolute revelation. I totally nailed 4.25 miles at just a bit over 7:00 pace vs. goal of 7:15. I'm definitely a convert. I feel like a complete idiot for not doing this sooner! In total I did 17 miles in 2:11 (7:44 average). Probably the best long run I've ever done!
