RACE WEEK!!!!

So the week is upon us.  Everyone get to CDA safely and well tapered!

And Al, are you gonna share your top secret sighting landmarks with us?

Comments

  • @ Al, I was kind of wondering the same thing. I'll buy you a beer for a good sighting tip!
  • Tapering blows. I want to go ride my bike.
  • Goal for the week: sleep, sleep, and more sleep (gotta catch up from 12 weeks of not enough sleep).
  • I have 150 on the schedule for my Thurs bike...is that right?
  • @ Stephen, the beginner plan says 90 minutes, up to but no more then 30 miles. I'm planning to ride with the group on Thursday and do the 22 mile loop that Al suggested.
  • @Stephen, the INT plan says 45'. I say you ride the hills and call it a day.
    @Shannon, such a potty mouth!
    @Stephanie, I hear that. Sleep!
  • @ Stephan - Yeah, the advanced plan says 150 minutes. I'm assuming that's a misprint, and actually means no more than 1.5 hours (note the text says no more than 30 miles).

    Regarding the request for sighting advice. What I actually offer is a plan for where to start the swim. My preferred location is about one-third of the way down the beach as you move left from the buoy line. There is a wood post in the water there, like a short telephone pole. Most people don't want to swim into a pillar, so they avoid that spot.

    As a matter of fact, the majority of people seem to line up to the far right, hoping to avoid crowds and ending up creating another one.

    If you are a strong and/or fast swimmer (like 1:30/100 yds or better), it might still be a good idea to start near the left buoy line. There aren't as many people there as towards the right, and the people there tend to know what they are doing, and will swim straight pretty much.

    As to sighting per se, I just ask the audience - if I look up and see a lot of other people going in my general direction, I just keep going. Realy, the crowd will preclude any attempt at actually swimming your own line. More important is to just stay within your box, litterally.

  • Al: wonderful advice.  thanks very much!

    so, packed most everything last night.  tonight i just need to pack the bike and my race day nutrition.  headed out now for a nice block of workouts to keep the engine running smoothly, but otherwise ready for a fun time at CdA.

    going in at 155lbs so my watt/kg is 3.42.  150lbs next year!!

  • So did anyone else workout today? I did my last stroller run and last bike trailer ride before IM. Almost bought it hitting the trailer on an orange cone. That would have been great.
  • I'll do a quickee ride later to make sure everything got adjusted correctly during the tune-up, but it won't be much of a workout.
  • I've taking it easy since Saturday when I strained my left hamsting in the last mile of my last real training run for CDA.   With Father's Day and Monday being my wife's birthday, it gave me good reasons to do nothing but ice and stretch.  I don't think I'm going to run again until Sunday and just hope the time off helps it heal up.  I did do an EZ 30 minute ride on a stationary bike this am and it felt ok.

    Still I'm getting excited.  Hopping on the plane to Spokane tomorrow am.  See all on you in CDA.

  • Like Michael, I just had my bike tuned up so I did a short ride on the trainer tonight to make sure everything checked out okay. The taper is definitely working as my stretching tonight felt great. I was able to stretch more than usual with no pain so my muscles are definitely feeling fully recovered.

    Will probably ride the bike on the trainer tomorrow for another short ride to keep the legs active and then start packing everything up for my drive to Spokane Thursday night. I'm staying with an old hockey teammate in Spokane so I'll plan on seeing everyone Friday morning in CDA for the swim.
  • So it is...my journey of 140.6 miles starts with...a trip to the airport and $60 in baggage fees with Delta (forgot that I don't even get my first bag free). What a crock!

    See you guys in CdA...and hopefully I will have some clothes when get there!
  • I've made all my workouts this week, even added a few OWS just to get the feel for it. Just finished with my last run workout. The bike is ready, it's funny how the shifting degrades slowly and you realy don't notice how bad it shifts until you get it tuned and then get it back. Now it pops into gear instead of rolling into gear. I made a bad-ass Joule mount for my aerobars that puts the computer out in front between my hands. So now instead of having to sit up to see my Joule I can just drop my eyes and get all my info. This will come in handy while climbing those hills and keeping my watts down.

  • On my way. Spotted my first pair of neon color compression socks walking around the airport. image

    I actually am traveling for the first time in compression leggings, under jeans of course and black color.

  • arrived yesterday and staying a million miles clear of the energy-suck of Other Athletes!

    Looking fwd to seeing y'all at 4 keys.
  • Drove the bike course this afternoon...there ARE some big freakin' hills out around that golf course! We will see 5mph and 40mph come race day! Looks like a fun ride though! Can't wait for tomorrow!
  • Good luck to all of you racing CDA!!! Will be keeping track of you via internet!! Big Mojo sent to you!!! Woo Hoo!!!
  • Thanks Barbara - Getting fired up - Flying out tomorrow morning and really looking forward to trying some of the hills Stephen mentions....Gotta love to climb!! Will be an adventure.

    @GH - I'll be traveling with compressions socks as well for the first time - black and under jeans of course!!
  • I like this under the jeans talk! Drinking a beer with Bruce and Peter after running the hill before the turnaround. It's gonna suck on the second loop.
