9 Weeks to Go!

Happy Sunday IMC Peeps!

Just nine weeks to go!   Getting so pumped hearing about everyone racing (and rocking) IMCDA!

I had a good week culminating in my first “BIG DAY” EN style. It was cool to actually get to experience a bit of the EN protocol after all the talk.  The Z2 did seem pretty easy as everyone has said it would, and I took full liberty of the invitation to negative split and went balls out last hour. Felt great and was even able to run - success!  The most important thing I learned though was how to properly execute a “Farmer John”.  It’s all in correctly judging the wind direction, I learned….

How did your BIG DAYs go? And nice to have a weekend day off, yes? Earn some SAUs?

Have a great week!

Do You Want It? The Theme Song of the Week is Ladies And Gentlemen by Saliva

Ladies and gentlemen please

Would you bring your attention to me?

For a feast for your eyes to see

An explosion of catastrophe

Like nothing you've ever seen before

Watch closely as I open this door

Your jaws will be on the floor

After this you'll be begging for more

Welcome to the show

Please come inside

Ladies and gentlemen

Boom

Do you want it?

Boom

Do you need it?

Boom

Let me hear it

Ladies and gentlemen

Boom

Do you want it?

Boom

Do you need it?

Boom

Let me hear it

Ladies and gentlemen

Ladies and gentlemen good evening

You've seen that seeing is believing

Your ears and your eyes will be bleeding

Please check to see if you're still breathing

Hold tight cause the show is not over

If you will please move in closer

Your about to be bowled over

By the wonders you're about to behold here

Welcome to the show

Please come inside

Ladies and gentlemen

Do you need it?

  • I did the Pacific Crest Long Course Triathlon (elev. >4200'@ the start) for my "Big Day". My swim was 49:49, bike (59 mi.) 3:38:16 and max mph 46.4 downhill, and burned up in the run 2:50:00. I have a list of things to work on but it was fun. I got to ride through and area that had snow banks 12' high on both sides of the road at an elevation >6200 ft. Shades of Richter and Yellow Lake to come?
  • I did my first Big Day yesterday. Swam 3050m, then biked the 4 hours, ran for an hour. Two big take aways from the day: I am a wuss on the bike. I don't have power on my bike, just HR. And riding along at what I "felt" was my typical IM pace (this will be my fifth one), my HR was a pretty good 10-15 beats below what I know on the Computrainer is zone 2 wattage. And then I was scared to go harder in case I wouldn't be able to run off the bike! That being said, my second take away was that my gosh, I am running well! Zone 1 super easy out and Zone 2 back got me just shy of a 12 km run. What?? I have never run this easily at that speed before.

And Jay, just in case you were serious - there will be no snow on Richter or on Yellow Lake! You might wish there was, but no. :-)

  • @ Ann: Nice job and awesome run!!!   Logic dictates that a “wuss” does not nail the run. Hence, you cannot be a wuss!

@ Jay: Super cool! I’m interested in what you thought of the venue as I did that race last year as a warm up to IMC.  As I recall it’s very close to IMC in elevation profile plus GEORGOUS, yes? How was the H20? Last year it was 56 and I got an ice cream headache - without the ice cream, unfortunately.   And you went ZOOM on the downhill!
  • I had to flip my week around last week b/c of travel, so Big Day was Thursday and long run moved to Sat.
Big day stats....3500 swim, 80 bike, 7 run...all felt good until heat caught up with me 50' into run. B+ rating for the day...
Long run on Saturday was better.17 miles in 2:12 and hit all interval numbers pretty easily.
Ready to TEST this week ?????
