8 Weeks to Go! Featuring All Summer Long by Kid Rock

Happy Holiday Weekend IMCers!!!

This certainly does not count as “epic” but FWIW I slid today’s training to the holiday tomorrow to participate in a “quadathlon” hosted by a good friend. For us, quadathlon means: run-bike-swim-drink!    It’s super low key and the only timing consideration is you need to be back to her dock by 3PM in order to participate in the first toast. Bonus: the sun is actually out today – wahoo!

Testing x 4 for me this week yielded:

1 - Holding steady on the swim

2 - 15 second improvement on the 5k for a small vDot bump

3 + 4 - Indoor and outdoor FTP are EXACTLY the same

I'm feeling good about the run but kinda bummed about the outdoor FTP. It was my first outdoor test and I was hoping it was higher earning me the right to race harder.   Oh well, it is what it is, as Rich would say!

Also, two bits of business:

1 - I believe John Stark is still looking for a team captain. Hit him up at ENRaceDirector@Gmail.com if you are interested.

2 - Any song recommendations for next week?

Happy Fourth of July – be safe out there!

This week’s theme song is All Summer Long by Kid Rock.    Lots of swimming coming at us this week and it’s time to seize the summer y'all!

It was 1989, my thoughts were short my hair was long

Caught somewhere between a boy and man

She was seventeen and she was far from in-between

It was summertime in Northern Michigan

Splashing through the sand bar

Talking by the campfire

It's the simple things in life, like when and where

We didn't have no internet

But man I never will forget

The way the moonlight shined upon her hair

And we were trying different things

We were smoking funny things

Making love out by the lake to our favorite song

Sipping whiskey out the bottle, not thinking 'bout tomorrow

Singing Sweet home Alabama all summer long

Singing Sweet home Alabama all summer long

Catching Walleye from the dock

Watching the waves roll off the rocks

She'll forever hold a spot inside my soul

We'd blister in the sun

We couldn't wait for night to come

To hit that sand and play some rock and roll

While we were trying different things

And we were smoking funny things

Making love out by the lake to our favorite song

Sipping whiskey out the bottle, not thinking 'bout tomorrow

Singing Sweet Home Alabama all summer long

Singing Sweet Home Alabama all summer long

Now nothing seems as strange as when the leaves began to change

Or how we thought those days would never end

Sometimes I'll hear that song and I'll start to sing along

And think man I'd love to see that girl again

  • Holiday weekend for us Canucks too! Since Friday was our holiday, pools were closed so no swimming. Instead, I went out for a ride with my old gang (also getting ready for IMCanada). Rode 4.5 hours with 30 min. run off the bike. Easiest ride I have done all season! Put in 40 minutes of z3 work at the end since I was feeling pretty good. Did my Saturday EN ride today (Sunday). A much different beast. Lots of work there!

Enjoy the rest of your holiday weekend folks. Back to work for us tomorrow!

  • Jenn- you seem to be the obvious choice for team captain!

  • @ Ann: Cool that we both got three day weekends, regardless of country! Must be good for the exchange rate.   Is your “old gang” doing EN style workouts too or are you keeping that secret all to yourself.   I vote keep it to yourself!

@ Steve: Ha! Not it! I’ll have my hands full with guests and hubby doing the swim course boat marshal thingy plus I hardly know the area… but thanks for your vote!
