  • Okay - if you've got your run test in, post here. Greg already got his in last Friday - lucky guy! Don't forget to log in the results in the data tool. image

  • Well I started a week ago and as many of you know I was involved in a bike accident two weeks before ironman Moo and tore myself up pretty damn good. Old news though.

My vDOT went from 50 to 44!! I am making this team a promise by week 8 test my vDOT will be back to at least 48!!!! No excuses.
  • 1.5 mile repeats today x 2 went well. Total mileage today 5.3.

Yesterday went 13 miles at 8:40 pace
  • Got in my run test today and my VDot is 41.9 and LTHR is 169 AVHR. Last year my first test was VDot 42.4 and LTHR 171 AVHR. So, my start point this year is a bit slower.  image   Just more room for improvement! image

Now that my tests are out of the way, time to get down to bizness! image

  • 5km run test tomorrow.

Should I do it on a treadmill or on the track?

My pros for treadmill is: repeatability, cons its boring as **** and its on a treadmill.

Track pros: Its outside, cons: it can be covered in snow when I'm due for my next test.

  • Just finished my run test. Ouch. Went with the treadmill due to the hour of the day and volume of rain this week. I have clearly established massive room for improvement. But that's why I'm here.

@Geir: treadmill "repeatablility" is only as good as the treadmill. Gym TM's get a lot of use and are probably calibrated rarely, if at all. However, if thats what you have vs snowshoes (which would totally throw off your VDOT!) then strap on the headphones and go for it!
  • Geir and Mark - the dreadmill can be a drag. I lived in Maine for a couple of years and grew to really dislike it. Mark's point about repeatability is right on. When we re-test in 8 weeks it should be ideally on the same course as this test for the compare and contrast analysis.

This OS is a lot of work and it is really good positive reinforcement to see the improvement from test to test.
  • Hit the track for my 5k test today. I don't think i would survive a 5k tt on a treadmill.
We don't usually get lot of snow in the winter, but the last two years have had periods with 20-50cm for months.
    VDOT 49
  • todays run workout was 45 minutes and the main set was 1.5 mile repeats times two. I am back baby!!!!!! 6:38 pace. Now I am really excited.
  • Did my run test today. I find this much more difficult that on the bike. Have only done 2 5ks in my life. Probably why. Not as bad as expected. 26:41 and Vdot of 35. Lots of work to be done but looking forward to it!
  •  A week ahead on the OS plan.  Workout today was 2 x 1.5 (4').  First one at 6:17, got through 1.0 of the second one, Garmin gave me a low battery warning and then shut off.  Huh.  Would have thought that low battery would mean "Charge it when you get home" not "I'm about to shut off."  Lesson learned.  The 1.0 was at 6:16 so I think I'm pacing pretty well.  Kept up the interval thinking the body registers the work regardless of whether Mr. Garmin does...

  • Stuck on the treadmill thanks to the first snowstorm of the year... 20:53 5k, VDOT 47, up 10 from the beginning of last season so I'm happy with that. Bring on the work, I want 50 by next test!!!
  • I'm just now posting this, but my VDOT from week 1 was 43.3. Not awesome by any stretch but I think it's safe to say my running only PRs are way behind me. At this point I just want to run well off the bike, and those PRs are still ahead of me. image
