Knee pain from road bike

So my tri bike is dropped off for IMFL I load up my road bike on the trainer for the first time in two years do a pretty easy 45 minute session on we'd followed by a 70 minute run on Thursday.  Felt fine all the way up until mid day on Thursday when igot up from my desk and my right knee had this kind of clicking sensation almost locking up on me.  Felt a little better after moving around some.  Took some Advil and will just swim tomorrow.

Question: did my road bike just freak my knee out a bit.  Should I skip the last saturday 2 hour ride prior to Florida and maybe just do a swim and short run.

  • Nate ya got the answers to a lot of this as you been around for quite awhile but a sounding board is a good thing to.

Do you use the same shoe for both bikes ? If not it may be the very .. very slight cleat adjustment which I would not mess with because your to close to race day.

Tri bike VS road bike.. you know the geometry is VERY different which will utilize different muscle/fibers and could influence knee cap tracking issues.

You have the work in the bank. Yes skip it forget about it , that 2 hour ride.. get on your bike in Fla for a few short rides, IMFL brother don't throw yourself under the bus with thinking to much.
  • x2, skip it. You've done the hard work.
  • Nate, I do a lot of swaps between road and tri bike through the season. In Sept. I did a 180 mile weekend charity ride on a road bike. My road bike is super dialed in as are my cleats etc. Yet at the end of that weekend I had some lingering knee and joint issues. The positions are different enough even if you ride them both enough that your body can tell the difference. I would go with the excellent advice above and just skip the bike. We are all so close now and you've built the fitness, arrive healthy and ready to kick some IMFL butt.
  • Thanks guys, I'm skipping it....
Knee cap tracking sounds like my issue.

I will swim and do short runs. God knows I got the saddle time on the tri bike....
