American Triple-T Ohio...anyone done it?

This race looks utterly epic: http://www.americantriple-t.com/

It's a little too early in the seasoin to be an "A" race for me, but I thought it would be a really cool endurance experience for a guy who's never done and IM and who won't be doing an IM for the forseeable future. It would also serve as a great volume-injection ahead of an early June half-iron race like Kansas.

Has anyone done this event? What is it like to do something like this? And for the event specifically, what are the logistics like? Do you have to camp (might be a deal-kill...I hate camping...)?

  • It's on my To Do list. Tho, I was much more interested in the White Lake, NC TTT. But, IIRC, the NC race was cancelled last year.

The independent races appeal to me for the mere fact that they bring great challenges but with a laid back vibe.
  • @Matt - I have done it, pretty tough race, but a cool experience. Make sure you have major climbing gears, and I would suggest a full sleeved wetsuit! Let me know if you have any questions!
  • Yes, Matt, I have. That's a version of my race-recon in the wiki -- though I admit that it's been 9 yrs since then. Happy to answer Qs if I can .

    Bryan's advice is spot-on.

IIRC, Ann Frost (ON Sleeper cell ?) did it last year en route to IMLP
  • Ok, a month late but I have now fully read - slowly and in detail - the link Al posted.
    Great stuff.
99% sure I'm doing this race in 2013. And it looks like Bruce Thompson may be a partner in crime.
I'll keep you all posted and will be sure to update the wiki with whatever is different this time around.
    Cheers,
    Matt
  • Btw, Tim you wrote the original article? If so I may need a phone call sometime in the spring...
  • Yup, I did. Feel free to PM me. Also, see who has done it more recently as well.

Sign up early -- esp if you want to stay in a cabin on-site -- which is an admittedly mixed bag, but best bet to be close and maximize recovery between days/events. It will fill quickly. If you do stay in the cabins, note no A/C and close quarters for 4-6 people for the weekend (racers only).
