New EN Member Seeking Help and Guidance
Alright, I am stuck and not sure about a few things.
1. I am wrapping up the preseason this weekend. I did not do very good at all and not in great shape. The outseason plan starts Monday. When do I receive the outseason plan so I can see what lies ahead? If I decided to bump back the OS plan, then what type of plan should I go with to get to the point where I am ready for OS? I think I can quickly get back to shape, but don't want to rush and risk injury.
2. I am just not sure how to best utilize this site. I feel like I am missing out on key components. How do you manage?
3. I don't have a power meter for my bike. How do you best measure bike workouts?
4. I guess I just feel lost at this point. I am not in the best shape, motivation has been low, but I am determined to break 5 hours in 70.3 race next year and want to do an Ironman. Seeking help and advice. Thanks

Aaron,
Please see this forum post I sent out as an email to everyone yesterday. This should answer #1 for you
See coaches note above and be sure to read through all that.
Regarding "getting back" into shape that is just way diff for everybody. Living through two full 20 week seasons of the OS it's nothing to wink at. I really think you should be able to get into the beginners OS and just do want you can but tone done the intensity a little on the run d/t the fact that is where you are at greatest to get injured. The bike and its intensity will only assist you along your journey in getting back into shape. You have a great goal for your up coming 70.3 now let's get you there healthy!!!!
Cheers
#1. Rich took care of.
#2. Site is a little overwhelming at first but it really is laid out well and easy to negotiate. Take a few minutes and go thru the tabs at the top. Read read read all the wiki info. Follow forums and ask questions.
#3. If you don't have power trainerroad.com is a very good cheap alternative that uses virtual power estimates.
#4. Start and follow your OS religiously and communicate with the others doing the same. You will no longer feel lost and guarantee your motivation and fitness will soar.
As always just keep asking questions!
Hey Aaron, I'm new here as well and there is a ton of information to sort through. What's worked for me is spending a little bit of time each day exploring the wiki. I also check the forums a couple times throughout the day and I subscribe to any forum threads that i post or reply to. So far that's working pretty well for me.
One thing i've realized is that when you have a question, just ask. Everyone is very willing to help answer any question you put out to the team.
In terms of motivation, my advice is to take things one day at a time and focus on doing each workout to the best of your ability and trust that it will all come together as your 2013 season starts to come into focus. At least that's the approach i plan on taking.
Enjoy...We're all in this together!
Just like you posted this thread ... re-post other questions along the way. Lots of folks will help ya get it right along the way.
Now that coach took care of #1, load it up and let it rip!
Fitness from the OS is a lot like weight loss, just in an inverse direction (hopefully!!) You need to test and find out where you are starting from. You do not need to prove how great you are at the beggining, you need to see how far you have come from today. You are only as good today as the test shows...you can't cheat, and why would you. The amaizing amount of work and knowledge that went into these plans will help get you to where you want to be. Remember, the OS is all about building the machine, you have race plans to get you ready for your races. Do the work, and you will be rewarded at the end of the OS. Good luck to you, and I ma sure in a year you will be passing this wisdom on to new memebers in your same shoes.
Happy reading and embrace the suck
As others have said, relax. It is a lot of information to take in. Take it in small bites, absorb it, then take a few more. You don't need to binge on the site and all the info.
Yes, I'm a Dietitian. Yes, I'm laughing at myself and this post. :-)
Aaron,
1) If you have been doing some stuff and are not going to injure your self then just jump in the OS. The tests maybe lower than what you want but your body will adjust. If you need the extra time then the OS can be bumped back by a couple weeks again unless this is for injury prevention I say just get in now.
2) The suggestion to dig in to the wiki is good. The resources tab on top then on to the wiki. Focus on the 2013 master plan and the self coaching tools there. This could take some time as well so perhaps seeing at the OS is upon us scroll down to that stuff. There is some pre-os guidance here and also plan that you can change to.

Also post your questions in the forum and you will get direction to the information or get answers from member
There's also a quick start guide here:

3) Heart rate is used when you don's have a power metre
4) Lots if information but don't get overwhelmed. Use the OS to get you fast then move on to the 1/2 IM training plan to get the far. Use the November OS forum to post a be accountable. Feed off the team mojo there.
