  • Waiting to see how bad of a hit NJ takes - seems we are in the storms cross hairs.....talking 60+ MPH for winds and 6inches+ of rain....Good thing I'm stocked up on Cliff and Powerbars! Hope Nemo's OK.....
  • 0630 this AM , looks as if NJ is in the cross hair... I'm already tired of this storm as it isn't even here yet. I live 15 min from Philly. Today take the patio stuff, lawn stuff fill bath tub with water check list is just getting longer.
  • Thanks for starting this post, Patrick! Everyone out there hunker down and stay safe!! Nemo and Tracy have posted some updates on F.B.
  • Nemo asked me to update on her behalf. Here is her latest post on FB

" We are out of power right now. We are ok for now. We anticipate any flooding we get will start late tonight and run through tomorrow. So tomorrow is the real question mark for us." Nemo Branch
  • Thanks Brenda! We've got power back again now. This storm is just so freaking SLOOOOOOW- they really need a time limit for hurricanes. We are OK right now, but expect flooding tomorrow once the storm moves north and starts hitting you folks up in the DC, MD, Delaware, NJ area. As of the latest update, it looks like we might get flooding as bad as Isabel- which was not fun.
  • Good to hear Nemo - hope the water stays down. Tomorrow should be interesting for us in NJ. I'm not concerned about damage or water, but could be out of power for a few days like last years October snow storm....Will just have get on the trainer and crank the ipod....
  • Its really strange for me just south of DC. Every single government/federal agency in this area is closed. They have even shut down the public transportation system. However, the powers that be at my work (Marine Base Quantico) have only set a "show up late" code for work. As my wife is essential personnel at a nearby hospital and has to go in, I've told my boss that I'm staying at home with the kids, but for everyone else at my work, I think its an extremely bad call to make them come in. Common sense doesn't seem to be a common virtue in this case. Hope everyone stays safe!
  • WE lost power already (pre-storm) but got it back after an hour. End of the street (abt 1.5 miles away) already flooded,etc...but it's the NEXT high tide that could be the issue...please be safe everyone!!!
  • A little rain this morning in North Jersey and the wind seems to be picking up steam. Some neighbors lost power for an hour or so yesterday evening, but it was quickly restored. City workers have been cleaning the drains of massive amounts of leaves to avoid making the flooding worse. Working from home today and recovering from my (first ever) FTP test and expecting things to get dicey this afternoon/evening.

  • Here on the Vineyard the winds are coming on strong. The flooding has inundated all the downtown areas to near-historic levels. Power has stayed on.
  • Mom near Atlantic City, Nj ok so far.

Great aunt (102 years old) and her daughter staying on the island of Brigantine near Atlantic City.          Despite the order to evacuate !!!!

  • Thanks everyone for keeping us posted! Constantly thinking of you guys.
  • Ocean City, NJ is already slammed even before the eye has hit. Slide 9 is where I always go to breakfast with the in-laws when we are down the shore.

All flights are cancelled locally so no departure for IMFL until at least Wednesday evening for me here in South Jersey. Good times.
    Be safe everyone.
  • Winds here are steadily 40-50 with gusts over 60. Some trees down, lots of branches. Roof shingles are starting to go. We haven't seen coastal flooding like this since 1954. Winds are shifting slightly to the east. Time for a nap!
  • I'm in Hoboken, NJ right on the Hudson River across from NYC - not much rain but the storm surge is coming now, the river is way up and high tide is still several hours away. Winds are picking up, 60+ gusts, TV  news is showing a construction crane dangling from a 70 story building in midtown Manhattan....stay safe all !!

  • Just taking a second for a shout out to all of those affected by the Storm. Hope all are safe and the massive cleanup/rebuild (if needed) goes smooth and wishing you well with the insurance coverage/promptness.
  • Well, no major issues here in Northern Virginia for my family. Lots of crazy wind and rain last night, but no damage/flooding like what I've seen on the news for NJ and NY. Best wishes for those that are having it rougher than us.

One bonus, the wife says there was no traffic on 95 getting into DC this morning which means the normal hour and a half commute turned into a 25 minute drive.
  • Power is out and some big trees down in the 'hood, but everyone is safe. Crazy night with major winds and rain in North Jersey and the house is a bit chilly...might need to warm things up in the pain cave

  • Schools closed and scattered power outages in North East Ohio. Hopefully the gym is open so I can go make up for my laziness from yesterday.
  • Oh gosh Robin, I hope your Aunt and her daughter are OK.  Living in hurricane central, I know TWC does it's best to show the worst and hype the damage as much as they can, but I don't think they need to embelish much this time around- it looks bad.

We are OK.  The sound flooding that was predicted didn't get too bad where we live.  There are several roads out and lots of homes damaged in certain areas, but the damage isn't widespread and is more isolated to specific spots.  Lots of work to do to get stuff fixed and I won't be riding or running my normal routes for a long time- but otherwise it's not too bad here.

Be safe everyone.  I realize many folks can't post here because they don't have power.  So if some of you are in contact by cellphone with folks impacted and can get a text through- please pass on the updates!

  • Minimal damage here in my town; we got hit worse by Irene last year, or at least that took care of most of the weaker trees. That said, Irene did HIT us and Sandy was no where near here and it did damage....crazy to think what the NJ/NYC peeps got...hope everyone is well!!!
  • Great aunt and aunt on Brigantine island, near Atlantic City, did fine.       Water into the first floor.   They moved to the second floor.

parts of the island did not do well.   Obama was on the island a couple days ago.

  • Just getting around to checking out EN again. We're finally in our rental place and are now waiting on the insurance company to decide how much they're going to reimburse us for our wrecked house. It was not a good night but it is fading in the distance.
  • Good luck getting all settled Peter.

  • Good luck to all still dealing with this, finally just checking in (and ok, a bit of venting) since no power, no internet, no phone land line until the last couple of days. But everything ruined in my house and garage is replaceable, still a big stinking headache and probably going to be expensive at a time when cash is tight. Good news, we're due to have appliances and hot water by the weekend, so I can finally take a hot shower and do laundry at home, yipee!
