EN is to Seinfeld as "IAN!" is to Newman

As in, it drives me nuts!!!!

After another year of cheering and racing, I am getting really tired of explaining that my name is not Ian, that there is no Ian on EN, etc. It just so happens that yelling "Go E.N!" sounds a lot like "Go IAN!"

If you are on EN and your name is Ian, then you win…but from a Team and "brand" perspective, it really could be a lot better.

But I don't want to make something up, I want to hear from you.

Do we use "Nation" instead? Citizen? image

Sort of silly, but kind of not…like if everyone pronounced NBC as "nimbuk"….just…not…right!

Let's see what you've got!!!

Thanks in advance!

  • No friggen way.  Leave as is!  This is the main reason I joined!  Loved the phonetic "Go Ian" vibes during IMWI!

  • I see t-shirts in our future with "Ian". Or better yet, when Rich refers to Timmy Racer, etc, it should now be Ian.
  • I think we've discovered our new nickname for Coach P!
  • Citizen?   Maybe a bit too Soviet Union or Starhip Troopers.    Maybe.

  • leave as is, and stop being so sensitive you Nancy.
  • Not sure I like Endurance Nancy.

;Brenda - you callin' Coach P Nancy??? Ouch!

  • I think it is to late to be changed. Too ingrained already...
  • Ya, thats what I'm doin Steve.
  • I know what the problem is. Me, I always can understand the "GO ...E...N!" just fine. I think coach is going so fast, he gets some sort of Doppler effect going, or else his auditory center is O2 depleted, and he's not hearing correctly.

Maybe we need a wiki entry about correct pronunciation, emphasizing that each letter gets equal emphasis rather than a strong E followed by a weaker N.

  • It's gotta be the doppler effect. Like Al, I hear the 'E' and the 'N' quite distinctly. image~
  • @ Al - you crack me up.

@ Coach P - as a life-long brand marketer, don't walk away from your brand equity.  In fact, make "Ian" your "Ronald".

  •  Just say the WHOLE thing always.

  • Shirts that say, "No, Not Ian. EN!"
  • HA! Nancy here....ugh. I like the Ian is EN's answer to Ronald....hmmmmm...anyone else?
  • My 8 y.o. son is named Ian and I can honestly say that I've never confused yelling at him vs. yelling at an EN member.......and I've yelled at him in both an encouraging way and the "other" parenting way!
  • Ha to everyone. This thread is fun. Basically I started yelling Go EN when I first started with this team and my sister said, it sounds like you're saying, Go Ian. So, I changed it to, Go E (pause) N. Like, really annunciate it (practice with me...) From the gut everyone. Go E-N! Patrick you noticed me when I cheered for you at Patriot. So did M, Michele, Claire....Go E-N, Go E-N. From the core. Don't get lazy. Z4 cheer intervals evefryone, focus!

  • Please, someone with design skills create a team mascot named Ian. That would be awesome! And, Team EN just only gets better. Like, fo' reals! Every days brings an opportunity to grow and do more fun things with fun people!
  • Also, puleeze get a trucker hat with Ian on it for said mascot!!! haha. Coach R must get one too. And, the Stark-man! hahaha. I miss PCB--Have fun this wkd!
  • I would strongly suggest we all use the full "Endurance Nation".

Hearing "Endurance Nation" during a race means a lot more to me and the non-EN world then "EN".

Let us hear and shout out the full "Endurance Nation".

Better Nancy than when Coach Rich calls him Patty or Patricia.
